Skymall.com-Give mindless luxury a chance

Sky Mall is an in-flight shopping catalog found onboard several airlines in the United States. Skymall.com is the online edition of the Sky Mall catalog through which one can order for products even after getting off the aircraft.

The online catalog, similar to its print version, features luxury goods and specialty manufacturers-there is everything from apparel, electronics, and pets to travel, sporting goods and toys. No doubt, Skymall is overpriced with most products being stuff you can do without. For instance, the all new featured product, Kitty Washroom, may sound fancy and effective, but considering you'd have to train your adult cat all over again to use this product, you'd rather not have it!

Despite the oddness of Skymall's products, people still go back to it often. If you are wondering why, then you are not a frequent flier. You would find the Sky Mall catalog in the front seat's pocket on any United States domestic flight; and every time you make a purchase, you get Frequent Flier Miles!

Sky Mall has partnered with a number of stores that offer a range of products for prices that may not exactly be discounted. Most fliers, however, find the purchase based on earning frequent flier miles rather attractive. So, don't be surprised if you end up with a pet perambulator (what the heck!) that cost you $120, just so you could fly cheaper!

Getting back to Skymall.com, the online catalog does, most of the times, make the Christmas gifts hunt easier, that is if your budget is large enough to take in high-end home products, gifts, or gadgets. They do have a great selection of stores- The Sharper Image, Improvements, Hammacher Schlemmer, Bookstone, Panasonic, Active Forever, The Noble Collection, Frontgate, Steiner Sports Memorabilia, and Casio, to name a few.

What's great at Skymall is even if you buy from different stores, you have to pay just one shipping charge; so there you go; that should save you some money. The shipping charges, however, vary with size and weight of the products. You could either use the Standard mode of delivery or go for Rush if the need is urgent.

But it's another issue when you want more information or have some problems to sort out with the product; you have to get in touch with the store directly, and Skymall is not going to be of much help. Sometimes the customer service can be so frustrating; you'd rather buy directly from the store and completely do away with the middleman.

While Sky Mall's products have more than once been the victim of snide remarks cuz' of the outrageously luxurious products they feature, sometimes luxury ain't so bad. Try it, if you have that extra buck to blow up.

Buyers of skymall beware... if you have a problem with a product, you could be out of luck... I bought a mini exercise bike that advertised "offering pedal resistance"... wrong.. now I have $139 bike, and no manufacturer customer service number to call... never heard of the originating company. Skymall said they'd "email the company and see if they'd be willing to provide a phone number to call. Glad I didn't buy a $3,000 delux cat house or something.
