Watch Ugly Betty on ABC, every Thursday at 8pm!

Playing the sweet but clever "fish out of water", America Ferrera (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Real Women Have Curves) brings the irresistible charm of Betty Suarez to the small screen every week on ABC.

Living with her father, sister and nephew in Jackson Heights, Queens, Betty Suarez graduated at the top of her class in high school and college, and sought her first job at Meade Publications to launch her career in writing. Through a series of serendipitous events, Betty lands a job as the personal assistant of the editor-in-chief, Daniel Meade. Betty, intensely loyal to her boss and genuinely honest, paints a striking contrast to the backbiting bitchiness of vain, superficial would-be models and gold diggers at Meade. But her ability to think quickly on her feet and put brains before beauty are also the keys to her indefatigable success.

  • Will Wilhelmina assume control of Meade Publications and Mode Magazine?
  • Will Marc ever find love?
  • Will an amnesiac Alexis find out about the bad blood she had with her father?

Yes, I saw several of the original Betty La Fea episodes. They started out with a homely-looking girl, but by the end of the telenovela, she was anything but ugly, which goes to show what a little bit of make-up will do to an otherwise regular-looking face. The girl in the Spanish version (it was an entirely different cast) was actually very attractive.

i have seen the original "Betty la fea" many, many years ago now. It is amazing how so many countries have copied the idea and made their own versions.

Ugly Betty intially brought an education to the public with humor and entertainment. The series delivered a relatively unattractive minority individal into the fast and furious world of the fashion industry and some of the frustrations, barriors. and insecurities that she would be encountering. Now it has turned stupid, trite, and embarrassing. Why not give the writers and producers the freedom of creating an intellectually stimulating script that would bring up the level of the program, and stimulate the masses. It would be a much more effective and intelligent approach. Insulting the viewers with "single syllable plots" and garbage and trash scripts is an easy, short sighted financial "gimme." You have an important core concept... rise above the swamp mentality and deliver messages that stimulate society.
