Mail.com provides web-based E-mail services. "Your Personalized E-Mail" is the caption of mail.com seen at the top right hand corner of the homepage. Multi-colored with text dominating the page, and advertisements winking at the visitor, the home page looks designed in a hurry!
"Free Mail - Listen to your mail," proclaims a box at the top left corner of the homepage. This is an ad for downloading Pod Mail facility - to convert entire e-mail messages to audio files for easy transfer to portable media players. Mail.com is the first web-based email provider to offer podmail services.
Separate login boxes for mail.com and mail.comBeta versions are on the right hand corner. The "Why Sign Up?" question is answered with the advantages listed down. The "Click here to sign up" box, red in color is situated nearby. Sign-up is divided into 4 steps. The first step is the username and the e-mail domain. An address according to the visitor's taste can be selected - Art, Love, Out-of-the-World, Profession-wise, etc. - for e.g. visitor@cheerful.com!
The second step is filling up username, password, password hint, name, address, birthday, etc. fields. The third step includes special offers like e-mail alert which can be downloaded for free. The visitor can either go straight to his account or subscribe to paid premium services. The member is taken directly to his email welcome page - A mail welcoming the member to mail.com will have arrived in the inbox!
E-mail, Addresses, Calendar, Note pad, Premium, Games, Cards, Forum, Personals, Video and Chat are the Links found at the top of the email welcome screen.

- Personals: Sign in, meet new International friends, pen pals, etc.

I have used mail.com for years and with declining satisfaction. Its so much work to contact everyone, personal and business people, to change to another server.
I feel abused by the current owners: sometimes I can't get to my messages (as reported by others), sometimes I write something and then can't send it (they system is down), sometimes those annoying ads with voices are frequent, etc.
Would I recommend this email server? NO

What has been happening with this email service???? Seems like it has been going downhill during the past few months. Service is sporadic at best, and when the site is down, it is DOWN and VERY FRUSTRATING. The annoying ads with voices is particularly unwanted.

I've been using mail.com for a few years, and I haven't had any problems, except the server being down every so often, which does get very annoying, especially now, when I'm attempting to send my professor my English homework and the site is down. =__=
Other than that, yeah, I'd recommend it.
This email is up and down like a whore's drawers. It is awful. It is down right this minute. The site is run by cowboys and as for the number of ads and popups, it is ridiculous!

Having the same problem today. "The connection was refused" message each time I try to access my mailbox. Not to worry, back to normal tomorrow, no doubt.

Yeah, it's happened a few times before. Still unable to access any of my email accounts - although yesterday, I got the message "This site is under maintenance" for a brief time. It's gotten sorted within 24 hours or so in the past. It's a pain but we hust have to be patient.
www.mail.com is screwed! That's why we can't access our emails with so much down time. And the guys at mail.com don't even bother to tell us when the down time will be.
Tried to log in into my account today, and I couldn't. I'm actually glad that it's just down time. I thought for a moment someone had hacked into my account! (Paranoia!)

Mail.com run by some group of unprofessionals, I recommend never use their services if you are sending and receiving important mails. GMAIL.com is one of the best of its kind in the market today, though they too have some drawbacks.

I have been using mail.com for about a year and I have not had any problems until I purchased the premium services. First I had emails just disapear in front of my eyes, and then the next day I was not able to access my account at all. I have sent countless emails every hour. Had mail.com for aaprox. 6 mo. was fine.
Now it is a NIGHTMARE! Mail.com claims my password is invalid (& it's not). Connection said my email service was suspended. I sent them 4 emails. No response but they FORWARD YOUR OWN COMPLAINT(S) BACK TO YOU VIA YOUR SECONDARY EMAIL ADDRESS!

Today 8/28/09 I discovered that email.com, division of mail.com deactivated my account. However 1) they did not inform me and 2) there is no valid reason for them to deactivate my account.
