www.oprah.com: Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey, philanthropist, media-mogul, actor, talk show host, multi-media production company owner (Harpo Studios), and magazine publisher, was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was originally named Orpah Gail Winfrey, but changed her name to Oprah because Orpah was just too difficult to say. Oprah's parents were unmarried teenagers; her mother was a housemaid, her father a coal miner and later a barber and city councilman. Until Oprah was six, she lived in poverty with her grandmother Hattie Mae. Even at an early age she was recognized as a bright child, reading at the age of three and reciting bible verses in church. At the age of six, she moved with her mother to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Although her mother wasn't as supportive as her grandmother, Oprah flourished in school until her teenage years when she rebelled. At 14 her mother sent her to live with her father. He made her education a priority and Oprah went to Tennessee State University on a full scholarship. Oprah began her television career as a news anchor which led to hosting talk shows. Her morning talk show, "AM Chicago", took off in the ratings. It was later named "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Today Oprah has won multiple Emmy's, has the highest ranked talk show in history; is an Academy Award nominee for "The Color Purple"; is the world's only African American billionaire; and is ranked one of the most influential women of her generation and one of the greatest black philanthropists in history.

Born in Kosciusko? Wait until a friend of mine, a second grade school teacher in Louisiana, hears that Oprah was born in the same town she was born in! I am shocked! Also, Oprah is living proof, since she has lived through all levels of the American economy from poverty to wealth, that it can be done. Kosciusko (pronounced Kauz ee us ko, by the locals)- are you sure? Thanks, Robin.

Robin says:

Thanks, Wajay! I agree an amazing woman. Yes, it's true; Kosciusko, MS is her birth place. Thanks for the pronunciation! I would have never thought it was said like that!

I sorry, but I agree somewhat with the editorial in today's Tribune (January 6, 2007)

I think Oprah needs to talk to the students at St. Martin DePorres H.S. in Waukegan. They work one day a week in corpoate offices (arranged by the school) in order to pay part of their tuition. This enables them to receive a good education and go on to college.Their school is an 80 year old rehabed grammer school, of which they are very proud! They don't want to be given a fish to quell their hunger, thay want to be taught to fish so they can feed themselves for a lifetime!

I realize that Ophra does many wonderful things, but to express disappointment in the young men and women in the Chicagoland area means she has not had an opportuntiy to see and hear their courage and commitment.

Come for a visit.

Sincerely,

Patricia Daily

Oprah,

I watched the show yesterday and once again was inspired by you and Bob Greene. My problem maybe is figuring out why i over eat. I thought it was because I like to eat. You often say there is a deeper reason and until we figure out what that is we wont succeed in our weight loss attempts. You must have something there because as hard as I try I fail everytime. I have a wonderful family and a wonderful life and it makes me sad to set such a poor example for my daughter. She works hard to look good and be healthy and I'm afraid sometimes maybe she looks at me and thinks I better watch what I eat and work out hard so I don't end up looking like my mom when I'm "old". I am so afraid of failing again this time. I weigh more than I ever thought I could and instead of going down I continue to go up. I was thin most of my life until I had my children. My youngest child is 15 so I really cant use them for an excuse anymore. If you can give me some personal words of wisdom I would very much appreciate it. Please help me make 2007 the last year for me to be overweight and unhealthy. Because I have one son in college and one son about to start college I need to do this on my own. Please inspire my to succeed this time.

Sincerely,

Michele Brado

hello oprah,, my name is albert collins i live in nova scotia canada , along what is known as the fundy shore, i have a rather heart felt request, that probably only you could help me with , no,,, it is not money , or anything like that,, You see i have a brother who is a year or so older than i we both have the same mother but different fathers , my mother had an affair , during her engagement to my father. and the outcome was my brother, his father did not know she became pregnant, with his child , that was

51 years or so ago, i have been looking for his dad and i believe i have found where he may be, anyway they have never met, and what is really unique about this is that my brother , did something with his life

that only a father could be proud of my brother was awarded the medal of bravery by the governer general of canada for his work as an ontario provincial police officer, oprah , ,, the lives we had growing up was no picnic either, there is lots to tell ,, so i think that maybe this could be a very heart warming story and could offer some closure for him , as he alway,s wondered whom his father was. can you help???

Hi Oprah, My nephew and his wife was accused of beating to death his wifes daughter of 14 years. They have been in and out of court a couple of times trying to prove that they are innocent. You see they took the girl to the doctor for her shots to enter highschool and soon after that she was dead. She was eplilectic and apparently the polio shot or ? caused her death. My nephew posted his story on line and got answers from some doctors saying that is very well possible. They are going to exum the body and re- check it and a woman doctor is flying in to help him with the case. This would make a good story as more people need to know the dangers of some of these required shots. Joyce Garab

To Oprah Winfrey

I'm a French Canadian single women, and I'm in the process of adopting. This is why I'm writting to you today. While I know and admire what you did in Africa, I would simply like to tell you that we need to NOT forget about little boys. They too need to hope.

While I had to research my options in international adoption, one message was clear...little boys were NOT wanted as much as little girls! The waiting list for girls is long while boys are simply waiting...growing...unloved.

So, Ms. Winfrey, I feel as if I need to tell you that it is a beautiful gesture that you made and I hope it will continue until every girl as access to knowledge but what I also want is the same opportunities for little boys, for they also need hope. Lets not forget that they will be after all the future husbands and fathers to the future generations and if we push them away, resentment will come in force and I fear everything will have been for nothing. A balance needs to be made.

after all, all are equals.

Merci

Now they are helping families who are ready to move into their rebuilt home to furnish their homes. They have nothing. HIGH SPRINGS - A genius roams the grassy lands off of Old Lake City Road.

He tends to the needs of what started as an honorable intention over 36

years ago.

The white-haired, gentle genius squints his eyes, shielding them from

the bright and very warm morning sun and offers a hand.

"Mike Sipe, owner of Tilapia Aquaculture," he says. "Welcome to my

hatchery."

The hatchery, a massive greenhouse-type structure that houses more than 30,000 tilapias, stands tall in the near distance. The roof is covered with

thick construction plastic to keep the hungry birds out. Tilapias swim and circle the perimeters of the concrete tanks, waiting for the next free food handout.

"C'mon in," Sipe says. "Let me show you how I feed my fish." A white, gallon-size bucket full of brown pellets sits on the edge of the first tank. Sipe picks it up and slowly walks from tank to tank, scattering the feed. The tilapias swarm and feed like a vulture tears into a carcass - hungry and fighting the others for more than their fair share.

Sipe's quest is to feed the world. Tilapia is the main entree.

Sipe is a University of Florida graduate with a bachelor's degree in agricultural extension and education, a degree that even he has difficulty in explaining, and almost a master's degree in biological insect control. "I had so many credit hours by the time I graduated that many of my professors joked that I was becoming a professional student," Sipe says.

"My degree in agricultural extension and education is simply a title that was

made up for me by Dr. G., my major professor who simply wanted to see me

finally graduate."

With such a wide range of college courses and numerous credit hour

curriculums, Sipe is educated in genetics and reproduction. He learned that certain aquatic species, tilapias in particular, feed prominently on flies and

larvae, which causes them to reproduce rapidly. It was with this concept

that Sipe realized he had the opportunity to help feed the world.

Sipe embraced this opportunity and dug a pond. After a donation of a few tilapias from a fish farmer in Arizona, the pond now houses aquatic life and

marks the beginning of the importance Sipe places on human generosity. As a husband and father of four, Sipe understands that it costs money to

feed a family - never mind the monumental costs to feed a poor community or a poverty-stricken country. However, the ability to provide food to people

who are unfortunate is not as far out of reach as some might think.

"Because I use proper naturalistic resources, a little bit of science and

whole lot of heart, many people will have nourishment tonight because of my efforts, and the efforts of the vast number people, in the countries I have worked with"

Sipe says. "It is a good feeling that allows me to sleep peacefully at night."

Sipe definitely needs to sleep at night. He has to be well-rested for a day in the hatchery.

Sipe has been able to produce one female to every 1,000 male tilapias

using his knowledge of genetics. This ratio of male to female is beneficial

because the male tilapias grow more rapidly and thus can be shipped and grown more quickly. Like all scientific concepts, however, a step in the equation can be miscalculated, or nature can occasionally present the unexpected - an unbalanced ratio of male to female fish.

When this occurs, Sipe has to sex the fish, which simply means that he

rubs a cue tip dipped in gentian violet on the genitalia to help determine the sex of a tilapia.

"There is a right time for everything," said Mike. "I can't have too many fish

in one tank and I can't mix both sexes together until I am ready for them to breed. There has to be some balance and some strategy behind my fish farming or else my production rate drops, creating a fluctuation in the equilibrium of my system."

Sipe's system allows him to reproduce healthy genetically improved tilapias quickly so he can ship them as breeders across the globe.

Sipe's commitment to feed the hungry - and his kind heart - set him and

his Columbia County farm above that of any other fish farms like it.

Two of Mike's four daughters were once a part of the less-than-fortunate population he is so committed to feeding.

In 1976, Mike, accompanied by his wife Jan, traveled to Brazil in search of

the tilapia hornorum. This journey proved rewarding.

Mike was able to work with Lynn Loveshin, who got the Brazilians to sell Sipe the hornorum species at $5 a fish. This investment is responsible for the present successful male to female ratio in Mike's hatchery.

The tilapia hornorum was not the only life form that the Sipes brought home from Brazil. It was when Sipe was off researching the tilapia hornorum and closing the purchase deal that his wife fell in love with a baby girl she held in a Brazilian hospital.

Sipe too fell in love with the girl just hours later. Christina Macrae became

the daughter of the gentle genius and his wife.

Back at the hatchery, Sipe adds oxygen from a tank just before taping the

lids of a box that says "Live Fish." The box is headed to Mexico. Its final destination is an orphanage. "I remember looking down at Christy's little brown eyes the first time I held her," Sipe says. "They were so sad. She was so hungry. It was at that moment when I made a silent vow to share my wealth, my tilapia as food for the rest of the world."

Tilapia Aquaculture is a business, but it operates as a charity as well. Sipe

has catered his male breeds to restaurants, other tilapia fish farms, universities for research, orphanages, exotic fish owners and, quite often, to his very own dinner table.

"Of course I eat what I farm," Sipe says. "My improved tilapia are

wholesome and delicious. Eating them gives me insight into the success of my work. If they are bred well, and properly cared for they will taste well. It's that easy."

Sipe's record of kindness never seems to end. In 1981, Sipe took Jan and Christy on a trip back to Brazil. The main purpose of the trip was to teach the Brazilians how to produce the 5,000-to-1 ratio, in quantity.

His teachings led him to his fourth daughter, Adrianne Lynn, whom he

found laying in a "crech" (which is a Brazilian state orphanage), abandoned by her mother.

There was no way that Sipe would return home without her. "I remember the day as though it was yesterday," Sipe says. "A beautiful, dark-haired, Brazilian baby girl peered out at me with golden-brown eyes. I held her in my arms and immediately felt an overwhelming feeling of unconditional love.

The tilapia that I breeder that I produce feeds poor, abandoned children

such as my daughters. I was able to be a father

Dear Oprah,

My name is Lauren Villa, and I love your show! I have a pet dog and her name is Amber. My favorite color is aqua blue. Also, I love soccer and my teachers Mrs. Horutz and Mrs. Barter; they are so great!

My friend is your number one fan! His name is Cody. He spends his time mostly either shopping at Abercrombie, doing school work, or, of course, watching your show.

Now, more about you; I have so many questions to ask you. How do you stay so calm? How do you do your hair? What shampoo do you wear?

Another question that I have for you is, are you and Dr. Phil friends or enemies? Do you work together? What gives you information? This is what keeps me up at night.

What I really want is an autographed picture of you on your show. You can sign if by saying, "From your close, personal friend that I've known for so long, and that I am so looking forward to seeing you in person, From Oprah." Thank you for your time in reading this letter. Now I can tell all of my friends!

Your #2 fan,

I would appreciate having the opportunity of talking with Ms. Winfrey. I am interested in the program that she started with the children in Africa. So many of our children here in the U.S. take Education for granted. I'm a woman of color, mother of 2 and grandmother of 3 Biological grands.

This has been pending on my heart and I thought I'd give it a try.

Not sure if this is the right place to send this but I am having some real questions about our medicaid in my state of WI and wondered if you would like to hear my story? I think you would be surprised at what some of us are going through when we put our loved ones in a nursing home. Thanks. FCJ

Hi,Operah

I watched your show about the child slave in Ghana,West Africa and my heart broke out.It beats me hollow, that Ghanian Government sits back and allow Child slavery without holding those involved accountable, including the parent who gave away their children for slavery.Perphaps, the Government can't do much but it's good that you have been able to use your magnanimous effort this out in the open. And I want to use this opportunity also,to thank you immersely for dedication and generousity.I know how heart broken it is when I see an innocent child been maltreated. Please, let me know how I can help,to assist those who are already Ghana, rescuring those slave victims or any humanitarian services that you 've endorsed which you think you need someboby to participate. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards

I am writing to tell you that I belive in the dead do come back, but I have a question 18 years ago my father died. He came to me one night and another night my father brought my grandmother with him. Then he never came back again. Then I bought a new house and put it where my trailer was. Is this the reason he never came back. Is it because we put the house here and he was never in it. He was in my trailer.

Oprah: I saw the show today that had on the Medium woman and I had to type to tell you that I was always skeptical of this phenomenon. But on Jan. 21, 2006 my husband died from Mercury poisioning. He got sick in 2000 and I took care of him for 6 years at home. He was the sweetest and most gentleman and I was very fortunate to have contected with him. Anyway, the year 2006 was most difficult after being married for 50 years and my mouring lasted longer than I expected. And then in Oct. he started sending me messages. In fact we used to go the the Museum of Art in NY all the time and I went there with friends. Had a great time and was exhausted after walking 4 hours on that floor. On the bus on the way home, I fell into a really deep sleep and Barry, my husband appear in front of me, his hand extended. I reached up to him and held his hand for some time. He looked WONDERFUL and at peace, and my friend hit my shoulder to wake me up. My hand was up reachingn out and she was worried about me. She said that I had the mosts beautiful smile on my face and my arm was up in the air. I told her, after looking around to find barry, that he was there in front of me. She smiled and we just continued on our trip home. This was just one inicident that happend. and once a month up until Feb. of this year 2007 he has sent me some kind of message. I contacted my Rabbi to talk to him because it was so obvious aas to what was going on and he spoke to me that these things are real and Barry was definiely sending me a message. I could tell you the other 3 things that happend but there might not be enoiugh space. Thank you for this program as I can say that I was skeptical about the abilities of psychics but I definitely feel there is "something".

Love you and your show.

I have seen eight ghosts in my life that I can recall. I could explain all away except the one of my grandfather the night he passed away. He was living in Nova Scotia at the time and I was living in Alberta. A distance of about 3000 miles. I was awakened in the middle of the night by a prescence in my bedroom. I sat up and there was a man standing in the threshold of my bedroom, just looking out the window. I didn't realize that it was gramp until the next day when I thought about it. I later told grammy about it, and she said "yes, he always did call you "my smiling Alicia"".

Katherine says:

While I have never seen a ghost I have felt the presence of my grandmother all my life. She died when I was 8 years old. When I was born my mother could not get to the hospital and the doctor did not get there on time so my grandmother delivered me and I was named Katherine after her

My daugher died about 18 years ago and she did communicate with me through a dream after she died. She was sick for 5 1/2 years and was in a lot of pain most of the time. She came to be in a dream the night she died and told me she was happy where she was.

At one time my daughter, her husband and daughter lived in a house believed to be haunted. I do not think they were particularly friendly ghosts. While the ghosts never did any real harm to them, it seems they did not want anyone living in that house. Would you please ask one of your mediums if there are unfriendly ghosts as well as friendly ghosts. And, if so, what causes them to be so hostile.

Loved your show today! Medium is one of my favorite tv shows.

Thanks for all you have done for humanity. God has blessed you and you have blessed the world.

I don't know if this is the same but I had an experience about two years ago. I was in Germany visiting my nephew. There is a time difference of five hours ahead of our local time. I was awakened about six o'clock Germany time as it felt like someone was kicking in my stomach several times and about my body. It wasn't until I returned from my vacation to find out that my oldest son had been chased by the police in his car. It ended with the car colliding with a wall, little damage to the car and him with out a scratch. As the police officers pulled him from the car and pushed him to the ground to hand cuff him, they were kicking him about the body. It was around the same time I had the feeling that I was being kicked. This is not the first instance something like this has happened to me.

Can your medium guest shed some light as to why this happened?

Hello Oprah . My name is carlene i am a international evangelist and gosple artist and a proud native of jamaica a born again christian serving the lord from the age of thirteen. now age 42 with two daughters age 19 and 22 also 2 year old grandson. About ten year a go my marriage broke up my exhusband was so abusive to me and my two daughters at the time age ten and twelve as a result we broke up and he claim no other man should not have me if he cant have me.One of the thing he did why we broke up he would mess around with our house maids. And the workers in my business and much more.so as i say my sorrow got worst .we had a nice and successful business and he started an afair with one of my secretary and both off them join together and took away all the client money from the bank. and took my two children and Run away for one whole year i could not find my children. oprah, I was next door to madness and death but the god that i serve kept me.it was like the whole world closing in on me. Then i lose my business and end up in jail for months for the client money my husband and my secretary took. when i got bail my ralative one of my cousin and my mother took take out of jail.at that time i did'nt have any money so i ask the court to give me sometime to sell my house and pay the court's bills and the client. So they did wait on me. One year later i found a buyer and the person deposit some money to my attorney to repay the cost .to my surprise the attorney kept putting of the case for over three Years telling the judge all kind of thing. After three years a new judge came to the court

And said that this case is going on too long so it need to be settle. so they gave the attorney time to settle and pay up the money .oprah when the time was up and i went to court the morning the attorney did not show up at all. The very impatient took away my bail and put me back in jail i spent a whole week before the attorney showed up and pay the money. at that time the said judge and every one found out that the attorney use up the money and have me going to court for nearly five years today she lost her job and still owed me alot of money she too run away not only me but lots of other clients she represented became victims .I prayed to the god that i serve and said if he really help me to get back my children, then i would go on the edges and by ways and tell the whole world about him. them i went to the family court and ask them to assist me. Then god allowed my husband's attorney to called me one day and tell me where my children was. Oprah, my children were about a hundred miles away from me and the court assisted and two police officers accompanied me as I went to get my children. The children was hungry and naked but i did not care at all, all i know i know i was so happy to be reunited with my two children again. When i was in jail i use to worship and sing and the other jailers use to enjoy me so much they encourage me to sing and record songs. And so my pen and paper became my friend and theropy and that's how i started developing my song writing talent. and today i have nearly a hundred songs and recorded twenty two on two separate Cds My first album is called "crossroads of my life" with ten lovely songs and my new release is called "victory". Last year i was able to incorporate my new company called Growing Faith Ministries ltd.I've been travelling and motivating lots of people sharing god's goodness .and now working on volume one of my book that i am hoping to release to the public by june 2007. My children finish high school and did well one work in my business and the other operates her own little business and back me up and my album, doing the back ground harmony. Thanks to god.oprah, i know my letter is long but i do hope you will fine the patient to understand how much this could help other women who've been hurt and battered by men to better cope with there situations that there is still hope dont give up. I respect you and enjoying your shows over the years and i just want to say you are a God send lady heaven and the angels smile on you the day you was born and the stars surounded you glory and beauty hold you because you have a heart of gold.and one day god is going to place his lovely arms around you and said welcome and well done my lovely child .Oprah you are altogether lovely. I'm a huge fan of yours. I want to congratulate you on your efforts to help the underpriveledged and the disaster-stuck people. Keep up the good work. I don't get to watch all of your shows as I'm from India but try to watch all those that are aired from time to time. I would feel exhilarated and honored if I could meet you in person. I recently watched the episode when you invited Mr. Elie Wiesel. It was truly heart - touching to watch the proceedings of The Holocaust. My heart aches for those who suffered in one of the most traumatic incidents in the world's history. It was very knid of you to find the family of those two sisters and reunite them all. Very well done indeed. BEST OF LUCK FOR FUTURE.

I watched your show today on "mediums" and am aware that this practice is receiving alot of interest from lost and desperate people who are uneducated in what the Bible warns against such practice. Please expose the truth for the rest of Americans who believe what God says in His Word........Deut. 18:9 "When you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you, be careful NOT to imitate detestable customs. For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as burnt offering. And DO NOT let your people practice fortune-telling or sorcery, or allow them to interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as MEDIUMS or PSYCHICS, or CALL FORTH SPIRITS OF THE DEAD. ANYONE WHO DOES THESE THINGS IS AN OBJECT OF DISGUST TO THE LORD. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. The people you are about to displace consult with sorcerers and fortunetellers, but the LORD your GOD forbids you to do such things." Oprah should think twice before she exposes "mediums" with-out the opposite side of belief, lest she is a complice in exposing Satan's dark world as interesting and something to engage in.

Thank you, Oprah and staff, for your hard work and compassion in bringing the world of ideas and people around the planet to us with your daily show. How fortunate that we have sensible and informative television available!

I want to share my experience with teaching inmates in our local prisons. In 1991 I was trained by Thresholds in Delaware County, PA to teach the Six Steps in Decision-making and Problem-Solving. This model was initiated by Milton Burglass, who was in a New Orleans jail, and learned by observing the situations of other inmates. Thresholds in Delco was started in 1974 at Delco Prison. We have trained hundreds of volunteers from the community (ordinary folks), more than half are women, from all races, many are retired. The final goal of these Six Steps is that the inmate learns not to react but to think, consider, evaluate new possible solutions. And will never come back into prison, but changes his/her life to include education, family, job. We have trained thousands of inmates since 1974. We have training sessions for volunteers three times yearly, Jan-Apr-Sept over a weekend, Saturday & Sunday at Newmann College, Aston, PA. Our

Hi Oprah, I'm not really a fan, but like some others, I am asking for help. I am 55 yrs old, I was injured on the job 3 1/2 yrs ago after 24 yrs as a truck driver that never finished the 9th grade. Since my injury, I can no longer work in that profession, I risked all and enrolled in a community college and earned an Associates Degree. I am now in my second semester at U.N.C. studying Psychology. I believe it is my purpose to help children with physical abuse issues, which I also experienced as a child and I am struggling with finances. In short, I have lived on school loan money since Jan. 2004 and not only owe all of this money, but need some as well to continue my education. The S.S. Admin./Disability is a nightmare to negotiate even after paying into that entity for almost 40 yrs of my working life. I am, however, still pursuing that option as time goes on. I still have 3 1/2 yrs of school to achieve a Masters in Psych. Between my experience, 19 yrs in a 12 step program and education, I believe I can be effective, but I need help. Thank you.

I am from the west side of Chicago and i am 18 years old currently attending westwood college majoring criminal justice. i love fashion and to dress up in nice clothes and i am like a picture freak cuz i love to take pictures. i also tried to email tyra but i don't think she got it or she just ain't email back but i one day i watched your show and one of my old school class mates from Steinmetz was on the show because you remodeled her auntie house who had adopted like four nieces and nephews. so i thought maybe you can help me because your always helping someone so why not help a young black female from the hood make it. another reason is to show all the haters who said i cant be a model because i have tattoos and is from the ghetto that i have potential and too can be America's next top model

All of the Glastonbury,CT elementary schools are doing this program called WATER 4 WATER where kids in 4th grade sell POLAND SPRINGS bottled water to students and teachers for $1. All of the money will go to a town in Malowi, Africa to help buy a PLAY PUMPS system. The system works like this, there is a merry-go-round to play on. and as the kids play on it, clean water is pumped into a water tower and when the people go get the water they need they just get it out of the pump!

Hi Oprah, My name is Alicia Theys, I am from green bay,WI. I just wanted to say that I look up to you so much. I think that you are doing great things out there. I am a single mother with one child. I am a also an addict. I am addicted to oxy. I have been using for 2 years. I have been wanting to stop for a while now, but no one seems to be able to help me because of my insurience. I have medical assistance. I have looked around everywhere to get into a detox center, and then after that a treatment center for after care. Everyone all around the United States is telling me that they can not help me. I know there has to be something or some kind of program out there to help me make payments to them. Oprah I am asking for your help!!!!! Please if you could let me know of any treatment center that would be able to help me!! I can't give up I know that my daughter is worth it. I am willing to do anything to get help!!!!!! Thank you for reading my story because it feels like no one cares. Alicia Theys

I watch your show. As a concerned grandmother, I am very interested in this bullying and shunning that

is going on among girls. I am shocked at what some of the teachers are saying to 12 year old students.

My granddaughter goes to Immaculate Conception Cathedral School in Memphis Tennessee. What do you think about a private supposedly Christian school allowing this to happen? What can we do as

concerned grandparents.

Dear Oprah, I want the world to know about How to get rid of cancer in the brain. I was almost killed

by a nurse at the VAMC Denver in 2000 My memory was messed up and I asked them if I'd ever been low on oxygen. They asked me why?Itold them about my messed up memory and they said that there was no way that I'd ever been low enough for long enough to have that kind of damage. In July of 2000 I was contacted by the VA IG AIC of the criminal division of the VA and he told me that he needed to use my file to prove a pattern of abuse and neglect on the part of a VA nurse.Months later I got a copy of my record. After my surgery I was in the step-down unit and the nurse left me without oxygen for around three hours and I coded they tubbed me and searched for the reason for my problem. They started looking for an embolism in my brain and they found a neuro imaging lesion in the Central Nervous System of my brain. They put in a central line and gave me one dose of chemo and never told me anything about what had happened.I knew instinctively that something was wrong so I began using a vibrating collar and I laied on a vibrating mat when I sleep. I also got a mat for my seat in the car. Finally after many months and years I had a new MRI and four days ago I had my MRI and it revealed absolutely no abnormalities in my brain. I ended up curing my own cancer without medication. My information is correct and the nurse that tried to let me die confessed to the FBI man that did her lie detector test she admitted to taking away a man's oxygen and left him to die. She did the same thing to me and it's truly amazing that I am now alive! I still have memory problems and constant migranes but I am happy to know that the cure for cancer isn't a pill it's vibration!

First off I'd like to say that I think your a positive role model to millions of people all over the world so I don't want to come off sounding like a basher. I watched the town hall meeting tonight and I must say that I personally thought it was a load of crap. As a thirty-two year old black woman I feel that the image of our so called leaders is bougous. Everyone jumped on the Imus incident and ran with it. Yes this was an unfortunate situation and yes I do feel that their should've been some sort of fine or suspension but as a community we choose to stay focused on this one issue to long. On the radio everyday you hear comments that can be considered racist. On black radio we make stereo types and assumptions about different races and we laugh because it's not offensive to us but when a white person does it it's a crime. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson blasted the white Duke players all over the air waves and television and have yet to make a formal apology but yet they are still allowed to speak their minds as Imus is now denied. Don't get me wrong I am not a supporter of his and have never listened to his show but I ask myself whats so different between him, Howard Stern and Wendy Williams. As a culture we choose to honor the same group of actors from yester year when their are plenty of young people out there making a difference in today's society. We join hands and hold town hall meetings over a stupid comment when the fourth ward in LA still looks as if hurricane Katrina happened a month or two ago. There is a huge gap in our presentation no one wants to hear what my generation has to say nor have we been given the opportunity. Imus is gone and now we want to set our eye on rap and hip hop. Are you serious? Come on now lets be serious do you think that if you never let another rapper say bitch or hoe that there will never be anymore. Rap and Hip-Hop is a reflection of what happens in the streets of our urban communities. I grew up in Compton California in a drug and gang infested neighborhood luckily I made it out but I'm not willing to look down on those who didn't. It's easy to think that we all have the same opportunities but the sad reality is that we don't. We offer nothing to the youth in the inner city no community centers, trades are not being taught, music and athletic programs are the first to go. Then we have Bill Cosby come on tour around the country speaking ill about single mothers. We all know that he's black and intitled to his opinion but when was the last time he's really been to a inner city? I also know that he donates large amounts of money to higher education and to HBC but that not where it starts it starts with our youth in those same communities that he came down so hard on. I don't agree with all rap and hip-hop but I don't past judgement like most of our so called leaders. I have a voice who will hear me?????????

Hello Oprah, I am not sure if way I am writing, maybe an inpulse. I have watched for many years and watched you struggles with you life and weight, but how do you do it. I am 22 and a college student. I used to be so out going, so willing to try, and so nice to be around and a good person. Key word used to be. A year a go I lose an very amazing person from my life. I know fill I don't have the strengh or will to do things. I have a lot of goals from my self but I never take any actions. I have also in this year put alomost a full 50 pounds on. I want to be happy, healthy and have a full life. Being only 22 and feel so bad sometimes it makes you just hurt inside. I am not sure what to do. I think I am ready and going to get back on the roller coster of life, but I just disapoint my self and lose my temper with me and others I love. I am not asking anything of anyone, but only some guideness and if out of the goodness of God something life changing. Ps. Dr. Oz is crazy, but I love his talks.

hello. im sure that you get stuff like this everyday, but i could really use a favor right now. i live in greensburg kansas. as im sure you know, our town was hit by an f5 tornado. it is completly demolished. I am 18 years old and owe everyting i am to the parenting skills of my parents, who adopted me when i was 3, along with my sister who is currently 16, and my 22 year old brother who is serving in Iraq. As i stated before, my parents house is demolished. It hurts me to see someone who has sacrificed so much for me, see the house torn down that they built with thier own hands. i would love to see their house brought back to its original state. there is only one thing that makes he happier than my family, and that is seeing them smiling. This is a very tough time, and they really want thier house back. Please at least give me some advice about what to do. Thank you for your time.

I had my first lung collasp in 1993. In 1994 my second, everything went down hill from there. I had around twenty surgeries before I was thirty including part of my right lung removed. A complete hystro. due to a tumor on my ovary, appendix, gallbladder, kidney tube repaired, bladder tacted up, etc. also found out I have conjested heart failor. Ihave lung diease,COPD,graulomatas diease, fibromygia which causes great amount of pain. The Dr. said my left lung was in worst shape but not collasping at this time so it would be best to leave it alone at this time. At first I went through depression because I was so use to doing things on my on, I thought there wasn't notting I couldn't do and when I got sick that all changed. I filled for my disability in 1994, I would call and check onit never the same story they were backed logged, it takes time etc. In 1998 I contacted congressman Helfners office to see if they could help.At this time I found out that they had lost my first claim. In one month I recieved three letters the first said I had a herring, the second was a dismissel of the herring, and the third was vacating the dismissel. So in 1998 I recieved my first herring. the judge offered my attorney to approve my claim if we would change the on set date of my disability my attorney refused so the judge came back with an unfavorable decision. I appealed this decision and it went to fallschurch virgina. when it was sent to Virgina my transcript and tape recording was miss placed in Charlotte N.C. In 2001 it was remanded back to Charlotte N.C. for a new decision. Where the Judge came back with a partial favorable decision that I was disable in 1998 four years after my insured status had ran out. Which I find funny all my sickness began in 1994. I feel if they hadn't lost my first claim and my transcripts and tape recording and my records then I might would have JUSTICS. If my claim would have been handle in a timely fashion and with due process would I be waiting for justics. It makes you think how many people have been over looked and maybe the passed on. melicia Dennis

Oprah, you had a show on intervention recently and my mother said she learned of a pill for crack addicts that is being tested in PA. I have a son with a bad crack addiction that is tearing our family apart. My husband and I have spent much money on rehab that doesnt seem to work. I had hoped to find out where they are testing this pill in hopes that it might work for him. Please contact me by phone is possible I would greatly appreciate it. Kathy

hi oprah, i have been watching your show, its so inspiring that i convinced myself that all will be ok. i saw my hubby last april (2006) am still waiting for the america embassy to call me for an interview, right now, am living with my inlaws in south africa, its there a way you can run a show on spouse that are madly in love living seperately from each other because the embassy has serious backlogs. i am tired, but am praying, cos my baby is 2+ and doesn't know his father and calls everyone daddy. my numbers are:

thanks alot,

I just viewed the show of the young girl serving 6 yrs in maximum security for disposing of her still born child. I feel it would be more anvantagous to the youth of America for her to address high school assemblies across this land with her story. I applaud your efforts to encourage youth to turn to someone when there is a problem in their lives that could lead to such as this. I am grateful there are places for kids to surrender their unwanted children without questions.Wonderful show.

Polycystic Ovary SyndromeIntroduction

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome or functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, is a complex endocrine disorder associated with a long-term lack of ovulation (anovulation) and an excess of androgens (male hormones, e.g., testosterone). The disorder is characterized by the formation of eight or more follicular cysts of 10 mm or smaller in the ovaries, a process related to the ovary's failure to release an egg (ovum). PCOS is one of the most frequent causes of infertility. Symptoms may include various menstrual problems, hirsutism (excessive body or facial hair), endocrine abnormalities, acne, obesity, infertility, diabetes with insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia. Even if specific symptoms are not causing an immediate problem, PCOS can have significant long-term effects, including diabetes, heart disease, and endometrial or breast cancer, so seeking treatment is critical.PCOS treatment decisions depend on symptoms, age, whether or not the patient wants to become pregnant, and the degree of ovarian, adrenal and androgen excess. First line management includes diet modification, weight loss and stress reduction since obesity and stress can contribute to androgen excess. Other management and treatment approaches are directed at addressing specific symptoms (i.e. acne, excess hair growth, menstrual problems, infertility) and at preventing long-term complications, given that PCOS can begin in adolescence or earlier. Some PCOS symptoms (acne, menstrual irregularity) may affect body image and self-esteem, and may be of concern, especially in adolescent girls. Education and support are important in helping young women cope with the physical and psychological aspects of PCOS.The MediFocus Guidebook on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome contains information that is vital to anyone who has been diagnosed with this condition. You will learn about the causes, risk factors, common signs and symptoms, medical tests that are used to establish the diagnosis, and standard treatments. You will also learn about the latest clinical advances in the management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome as well as about the newest treatment options that are available. The MediFocus Guidebook on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome will also inform you about important new, exciting research in the area of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. You will also learn about the doctors, hospitals, and medical centers that are at the leading edge in conducting clinical research about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.Information about clinical trials, quality of life issues, a list of questions to ask your doctor, and a useful directory of organizations and support groups that can help patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome complete this valuable Guidebook. You won't find this combination of information anywhere else. I have been out on disability for the past four years.I have a serious sleep disorder and I am Bi Polar. The Dr's tell me that I am out of their legue and they can not help me sleep. I was told I should go to Europe. You have helped so many people I hope you will be able to help me. I've run out of options..I have not slept in 5 weeeks. The Mayo clinic and Miami said they can't help. I wrote to Dr Demente at Stanford and got no response..I have tried to get into a sleep study for 3 years without any luck.

I am 51 years old and live with my 77 yr old mother. She has begged me to write this letter. My family is very concerned abot me.If you could see it in your heartto help me I would be eternally grateful. Tired and in need of rest.

Dear Oprah, It's a blessing having someone like you on TV. I have a friend of mine that has multiple sclerosis. She is very poor & on top of this situation she takes care of her ill mother. They both live together & alone. I wish my situation was better but they live in a an apartment with no furniture. My friend has been always there for me and never complains. The money they get from the (goverment) is not enough. Last year was our 30 year class reunion and she was able to go because her brother and classmates made this wish come true. I just want to see their lives better. Also, I would like you to consider this story on your show regarding friends. I would like to send you a video of her as soon as I hear from you. God Bless,

Bruni Martinez (Miami, Florida)

I would like Oprah to do a show about self mutilaters. I'm 47 and I have been cutting for about 13 years. I would like some feedback on 1or2 shows. Why it starts and why it's so hard to stop. Also get a Psychiatrist that apecializes to help me stop. It's not limited to my arms and I have cut and burned. I really want to stop.
