www.realtor.com Reviewed
I have used www realtor.com many times so I have a pretty good understanding of its offerings. Here's my review of what I liked:
- The homepage is simple and easily navigable with top and side toolbars(the top toolbar is the only constant)
- The top bill of the homepage is to search for a property. This is the main reason I go to the site and the format is very simple. Realtor.com uses the MLS listings in their database so you are getting an accurate account of homes for sale.
- You can search for a home using these parameters: City, State or Zip, minimum to maximum price, number of beds, and number of baths.
- Once you've started your search for a home, it's very easy to change these specifications with a top tool bar.
- There is a new interactive map to show you locations of the homes for sale. This is particularly helpful in a big city when you don't know all of the streets.
- I like their get a loan format. It's simple and you choose the lenders that will contact you. Type in your information and compare the different loans, then choose which lenders you'd like. Many sites have you type in your information and lenders bid for the chance to give you a phone call.

What I didn't like about www.realtor.com:
- The home estimator was not that great. They should partner with a company like www.zimbio.com to get a more accurate reading. They did give me other properties in my neighborhood that were for sale which I liked, but their range of price was really big: a difference of $200,000. It might have helped if they had asked square footage, beds and baths. The only parameters they set were address and if it was a single family home or a condo/townhouse. I think this is more of a way to contact a Realtor because they advertise for Realtors on this page.
- We live in SF so I'd like to search by neighborhood instead of just by city. This isn't an option. For example, there were over 1400 properties between one and two million in SF. It would be much more usable if I could split up the homes by neighborhood.
- Finding a rental had the same problems.
My rating and recommendation
Recommendation: Overall, I like this site. It's format is simple and to the point. It's easy navigable and if accomplishes what I want it to. The only major drawback I found was not being able to search for listings in a specific neighborhood. You can search by zip code which narrows the search a bit, but I'd like to search multiple neighborhoods within a specific price range.
Rating: I give the site a 9 out of 10.
