Craigslist.com is a site that features the local and classifieds forum for 450 cities worldwide. To put it simpler, Craigslist is a centralized network of online urban communities. The site is a real treasure house of information and you can be sure to get advice on just about anything here. Craigslist has made a mark of its own with a presence in over 50 states of US and over 50 countries. Be it jobs, housing, goods, services, romance or local activities there is absolutely nothing that you don't find here.
The great trafficking rate reflects the huge popularity of the site. It is estimated that more than 20 million people browse through the site every month. With around 7 billion web page views per month, the site is nothing short of a hit. In terms of popularity and revenue generation, Craigslist is placed 7th in a list of top ten. The site runs a close second to Newscorp. The Craigslist discussion forum receives more than 60 million postings which is a clear evidence of its acceptability. Craigslist is also the top job boards with more than five hundred thousand new job listings every month.
The site receives more than 17 million new classified ads and is the leading classified ads service in any medium. The umpteen paid job ads received by the site every month contributes to a major share of its revenue. The site was found by Craig Newmark, a hardcore software engineer in the year 1995 and achieved great success and popularity in a span of very few years.
The site is designed simplistically and uses shades of blue and white extensively. The home page is jam-packed with information and appears a bit crammed. But when considering the amount of info contained in it, the site is worth giving a try. The disadvantages of the site lay out can easily be overlooked when it comes to its usefulness. The right hand side of the home page features a list of the different countries and cities of US. The main categories listed are community, housing, personals, for sale, jobs, discussion forums, services and gigs.
Every section in the personals category opens up with a warning and disclaimer notice. The site invites postings from the users through the section post to classifieds. Before posting comments users can go through each section and send their postings to each section specifically. The search Craigslist box lets users search through each category of the web site. Besides the regular options the site has a unique option the event calendar.
With a whole lot of wide-ranging top quality services offered the site can rightly be called an online encyclopedia.
