Dancingwiththestars: the show that makes celebrities dance

Dancingwiththestars.com is the official website of one of the most popular of prime time TV shows- ‘Dancing with the Stars.' In the show, celebrities take part in a dance show and are scored by a set of judges as well as by viewers. The couple which gets the lowest score gets eliminated in each round and the game continues till only a single couple is left who wins.

The site is run by abc.com, the parent company and thus has links to abc's sites on top.

The homepage done in shades of purple and electric blue reflects the nature of the show. The panel on the left has these options-vote, bios, photos, about the dances, games, video, downloads, shop, message boards and ‘about the show.'

In ‘vote' the format for voting for each pair of dancers is given besides the rules and regulations. You can find short biographies of each of the pairs in the section ‘bios.' The name and profession of the person is followed by their background. There will also be a table listing their scores till date in the different genres of dance-rumba, mambo, tango etc. There are also biographies of the judges, the hosts of the show as well as the ‘pros' or the dancing partners of the celebrities.

‘Photos' has an exhaustive collection of the photos of the show through all the seasons. There are photos of each one of the pairs separately as well as that of the performances categorized on a weekly basis as well as for each season.

There is also a short description of each dance genre in the section ‘about the dances'- the cha cha, the fox trot, the jive etc. The descriptions are short but comprehensive. In the ‘games' option, you can predict the outcome of the show and win points accordingly. However, you need to be a member first and log in to play the game. Registering, however, is easy and hassle-free.

The ‘video' ‘downloads' and ‘shop' options lead you to independent pages of abc.com. Therefore, you will find videos of all the shows of abc.com in the page, not only that of ‘dancing with the stars.' Similarly, in ‘shop' you will find displayed all products related to the shows of abc.com.

If you are a registered member, you can post messages in the ‘message board.' All your views and opinions about the show, the dancers and the performances can be posted here.

The site generates revenue from the various advertisements which can be found all over the site.

Dear Marie and Family,

How very sorry I am in the loss of your Father. It doesn't matter how long we have our parents, the time is never long enough.

My Father was only 69 when he passed away. Their void is never filled.

You and I have something in common, as we were our Daddy's girls.

No matter what anyone says, we will always miss our parents; and be thankful for the times we shared with them.

God Bless you and your family,

My husband and I are in shock!. WE have watched dancing with the stars every season and this season may be our last! You should rename the show "A popularity contest" I thought this show was about who can dance better, not who can charm people better. The show got frustrating when Sabrina was booted off, but now Marie Osmond has just been saved for another week. Absolutely wrong!

She did NOT dance well on Monday November 13. It just shocked my husband and I when marie was saved. All the other dancers are by far better than Marie. My husband and I may not watch next season and this is the only show we watch on a regular basis. It makes me feel sad and I hope the show can get back to who dances better. Thank you

As for Marie... She has improved 100% since show 1! As for many getting tore up over Sabrina was VOTED off... Yes, she was a terrific dancer but she has been a Dancer for years! The show started off years ago by enlisting actors and actresses that Could Not Dance and then we watched them learn, grow and Perfect their dance step. That is What this show started as. To have people like Sabrina and the one from the singing group seems to not be fair as they Are Already DANCERS!

Keep up the Good Work Marie! You look great and are enjoyable as Always to watch.

What a shame! This show has turned into a popularity contest insted of what it was supposed to be. A Dance Contest.. It's time for Marie to go home. (Sorry Donnie, no more tears please.)

Ann  says:

Enough--Marie needs to keep her personal life off the dance floor--If this has become a popularity show based on sympathy the show isn't worth watching. The judges should have 75% and fans only 25%--they are the professionals. If Marie wins I'm done--she can't dance compared with others but all the press is about Marie and Donny--He shouldn't be mentioned. Please change the voting so people don't get to vote a poor dancer the winner based on sympathy.

It started off being an entertaining show. However why are you wasting the time of these talented judges when it is so obvious that their comments do not mean anything. In a way it is like they (the judges are being ridiculed). The system has to be changed. This has just turned out to be a popularity contest. All the hard work these people do, seems to be a waste of time. Why don't they just ask people who are their favorite stars at the beginning and just make it a popularity contest?? This season I think everyone agreed that Sabrina and Mark going was a disgrace to the ballroom dancing profession. I am not saying that they would have won, but it is obvious that some people are only there because they have a much bigger fan base. The system should change to the judges having a 70% vote and the public a 30%. As much as I love the program, I do not think that I will be caught up in the program next season.

Carmen  says:

Blame the loss of Sabrina where it belongs - - on the public. Marie's personal life is not mentioned any more than some of the others and I am tired of the Spice Girls poping up every week. What a lot of PR that is for them. Sabrina was a big loss to the show. I think giving the judges a more powerful vote is a great idea; they at least know what they are talking about.

Dave  says:

Sorry Carmen, but I dissagree. Every week Marie's family is featured in some way or another. Last night she ended up on the laps of her brothers. This is not a show about Ball Room Dancing anymore, it's all about how popular Marie is. Marie, it's time to go home. You are a great entertainer but, you can't dance up to the standard that the show is at right now.

De thomas  says:

Marge  says:

I am sick and tired of all the hype Marie is getting. She is a terrible dancer. Donny should keep his mouth shut. He was on the Insider and was predicting that his sister is going to win without a doubt. He stated "this is not a contest for the best dancer. It's a contest for the most popular, and that's his sister. BOO! he should not be allowed to comment since it's his sister dancing. He also stated awhile back that he felt sorry for his sister because she work's so hard and blah, blah, blah. Nobody twisted Marie's arm to join the show.

Carol Cottrell  says:

I think it is VERY unfair that Entertainment Tonight is giving MARIE, all the time it has. and Donny, being on there every night plugging and pushing for his sister to win. He should NOT be on there while she is in the compatition. and someone should make an issue about it.

I hope she does not win, for the reasons above.

I would sure like to hear more about MAX myself, even though I am 74 years old.

He makes me smile everytime I watch him. It would be nice to have his picture and autograph too!!!!

like in everything there's has to be one winner and in my book that would be Mel B and Max god luck tomorrow night guys.

on your next show with dancing with the stars, ballroom dancing to latin dances should be latin music, the dance loses that latin beat when the contempory music is played. cha-chas, tangos, mambos, sambas, rumbas etc have that wonderful look and feel of the dance. I think this change will help voters like me vote more.

This competition is completely unfair when you put a professional ice dancer up against 50 and 60 year old contestants. Why don't you have an over 50 category to make the game more of an even playing field?

I would like to be able to contact someone about a proposal. I have a request for a dancer to be honored by being allowed to dance on your show just once. She is a dance teacher/Grand National Champion Dancer from SC who has had many students over the years who now compete. She has had an unfortunate stroke of luck health wise and has cancer. It would be such a wonderful thing if she could have this opportunity before she meets her maker. She is a positive force and is always smiling. She takes every opportunity to go and dance/teach the children who have cancer and works with them and the homeless. My husband and I are some of her students from GA. Please give this some consideration. We are big fans of the show and haven't missed one yet. This would be an honor for all her students to see!!! She is a professional in every way! Thank you very much for this consideration.

Dancing with the Stars has turned into a circus!!!! Dancing is not the main focus anymore! Why would a program ask an 82 year old woman to come and dance in the first place???? Don't get me wrong, I love Cloris Leachman. But this is ridiculous. I think the judging needs to be left to the professional judges and not the public who votes people to come back because they think it might be funny. These people work far to hard to be voted off and then those are kept on who have no dancing talent whatsoever!!!!!!!! You're going to lose viewers and ratings as far as I'm concerned.

james t collins  says:

I am not sure how to vote. I have voted for a lot of shows but I have never been able to vote for the Dancing With the Stars & it is my favorite show that the public can vote for their favorates. I never had trouble on the other shows & I'm not sure why your show is a problem. Please advise. Jim Collins collins127@hotmail.com

I am very dissapointed in the show again this season. I boycotted it when Jerry Springer was voted to stay each week just because of popularity. Again, this is happening with Cloris. She should, at least, try to dance instead of taking over the show herself with her stupid antics with the judges and spectators. and her "dance" routine. I feel sorry for Corky. The show is a dance competition!!!! How do you think the ones voted off feel for putting their heart and soul into it and then get voted off and someone acts like a fool and gets voted on? Look at Marlee last season. She was harshly judged for not being on time with the music. She is deaf!!!!!!! No one gave her a break. That was sad. Why is Cloris so different? Because she is 82? This is simply not fair and if she stays, I go. In my opinion, the contest is between Warren and Brooke at this point. Please make the changes to make this a dance competition again. Thanks, Pat

Coco Jean  says:

I have watched the program from its inception but it is becoming a comedy show instead of a dance competition. Cloris has to go ... enough is enough ... . She and her vaudevillian antics belong on AFV, not Dancing With The Stars. I hope the show's producers wake up and don't allow this sort of "Senior Citizen Charade" to continue or to surface again. I'm not that much younger than Cloris, and I feel that she is really looking like an incompetent trying to recapture her youth. Poor Corky, God Bless Him. What a position to be put in and what a responsibility to have to look out for this 80 plus year old. I agree with "pkolins" - let the professional judges do the judging. If Cloris lasts this next week, you have lost a faithful viewer. Enough said !!!!!!!!!!!

Well I am so disapointed. I love this show but give me a break. Why pray tell me is the American People voting for Cloris to stay. Yes the women is a star NOT A DANCER. She is funny but that has passed on this show. She has her nose into everyones interview. Go set down old lady where you belong in the back. I am tired of seeing those poor young people being kicked off when they do not desurve it. I am a 73 year old and I love old people I am one. Cloris go home where you belong and quit making a fool of yourself. I am sorry Corky they have given you the job of trying to keep the lady going. Judges you are doing a great job and hove no control over this except you could each give her a 1 next week and see if that works. Maybe the show should think about another way to run the voteing, as the American Public doesn't seem to know how.

Barbara  says:

I to want to complain about Colris and Corky. It is so embrassing to watch the two of them acting like two over heated teenagers. This woman has always been a fool. I do not blame Len for taking time off. My relatives and I have considered doing the same thing. If she is on the show another week, that is what is going to happen. I though this was the best show on TV. It has lost so much by alowing talented people to be picked off well NO TALENTED one contiue to remain.

aumalee crandall  says:

Colris needs to go home. I feel sorry for her dance instructor trying to

work with her. Last night when she tried to interfere with the kids on the

show was too much. Get her off and in the future pick younger people.

She is a disgrace to the program.

I am hoping the producers of Dancing With The Stars are waking up to what is happening with Cloris. She is no dancer. She only jumps into the other dancers camera time. She may be the end of the show - at least she is for me. I have no intention to watch the show until she is voted off. Those voting for her are doing it for a lark. Next year (if there is another year) I hope the producers have a cast of people that might be able to dance. Forget the Cloris', Jerry Springers, etc.

In regards to last night show, we all know that Cloris is not the #1 dancer, but she is entertaining....Shame on Carianne for that uncalled comment she made about her....the woman is 82 years old....God Bless Her.....Yes Toni Braxton was good and better than some of the others....so why didn't she pass a comment like that to the other dancers.....I never expected Carianne to behave the way she did and then trys to cover it up at the end....Please.....I lost alot of respect for her....my god the woman is 82 years old.....and if that's the way they feel....they should allow dancers their age to perform.....sorry Carrianne not on my good side.

I believe that Carrie's demeaning comments to Cloris last mon. PM were unprofessional and an insult to the spirit of this show.   Her distain demonstrated her limited tolerance for performance outside her ability to critique. Versatility  - dance ability, progress in skill level and entertainment - are three keys factors of this show. Judges and voting audiences SHARE the power in selecting those to go on. Obviously Cloris was popular with enough voters to stay on longer than Carrie Ann's tolerance ( for her standards only) level.Yes, Cloris was often over the top and yes, Toni braxton was lovely and a better dancer. AND Toni did not connect with the audienes as well as Cloris.Allowing Carrie ann's remarks to go un-addressed lessens your show's credibility and before-respected standards.    We love the variety and the oft kooky subjective judges critiques. And we do not enjoy seeing someone unnecessarily bashed. We have lost some respect for your show.

I imagine that you get a lot of these requests, but I at least have to try. My husband and I have watched the full 9 seasons, never missing a show. My husband is now 60 years old and has fatal liver disease and was given 1 year to live in September. I was just hoping that you would have the compassion to send us there, expenses paid since this is his favorite show. I know times are tough which we are certainly going through on disability, but this would bring a light into his eyes and hopefully he would feel good on the day you give us tickets. We simply can't afford the cost of anything (maybe a hotel). Please show that there really is some caring the the Dancing with the Stars and they will try to send him and his wife (me) to see one episode of your show. I would love to see him light up at this stage in his illness. My dad told me "it never hurts to ask" to I am doing just that. Thanks for taking the time to read the comment
