Eagle.com: Shake the roads with the legendary Eagle!
The brand name "Eagle' has always been synonymous with the best sports cars. The Eagle brand, a flagship of the Chrysler Corporation subsequent to the purchase of American Motors Corporation (AMC), was renowned for its Talon sports car. The high-performance and sporty Talon coupe sold an amazing 115,000 units. However, quite unfortunately, the brand existed only for a short span of time. After 1998, Chrysler discontinued production and withdrew the Eagle brand.
The Eagle Talon was essentially a passenger car manufactured between 1990 and 1998. The car was sold by the then Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors of Japan in a joint venture popularly called Diamond-Star Motors. The Talon was sold under the Eagle marquee by Chrysler after the purchase of American Motors in 1987. The other two sister models of Eagle Talon were the Eclipse and the Laser. Some of the prominent characteristics of the Eagle Talon are two doors, hatchback, 2+2 seating (2 front seats and 2 marginal, fold down rear seats), Front-wheel drive (FWD) for all option levels, 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmissions Two-tone color combination, hood bulge on the left-hand side of the car so as to provide sufficient clearance for the camshaft sprockets/timing belt cover on the 4G63 engine. By 1998, Chrysler Corporation stopped the production of the Talon sports car, withdrew the Eagle brand and 2 years later, they even dropped the original website address.
The website, http://www.eaglecars.com/, maintained by Eagle enthusiasts, does not provide much information on the highly acclaimed Talon sports car. Unfortunately, most of the links are not properly working and the website doesn't seem to be properly maintained. As one of the founding members of the website puts it, "One weekend it was raining, so I took it upon myself (and with the help of a few other DSM'ers) to create what we consider a "virtual museum" for the now defunct line of Eagle cars, Talon's especially". However, the website offers numerous links to other websites dedicated to eagle models. Unfortunately, eaglecars.com is still under construction and is not a definitive resource of information on Eagle cars. The section ‘What happened to Eagle' traces the brief history of the Eagle brand of cars. The website, however, gives you more information on the Talon AWD rather than the other models. Though out of production, the Talon still retains its quaint charm and true sporty spirit. Do not forget to check out the Low Mileage 1997 Talon AWD which has been put up for sale on the website!
