Chicago Housing Authority has come up with a new idea to hold a lottery for Section 8 housing on www.rentbetter.org
The Winners of this lottery can expect a federally subsidized rental housing, which depends on how soon the 35,000 vouchers turn over.
Affordable housing or low income housing is becoming a rarity these days with escalating prices of Chicago apartments and this is a brief opportunity for families to enter the lottery for housing assistance.
The application is free and available online starting April 17th and ending on May 15.

First this is only open to the Chicagoland area, In order to obtain an application, you can go to any Chicago Public Library, there will be one given per person. This will last 4 weeks, after that time 40,0000 names will be pulled from the lottery and placed on a waiting list. Good Luck!

I was one of the applicants that won the lottery, my return letter said within 0-3years. I wanted to know would it be 3years before i get a call or a letter. I have been told by people that is already on section.8 that it would be 3years before section.8 calls me for a interview.

Please be advised that I am disabled and am searching housing (possibly senior?). The problem is that my daughter is my caretaker and she has a teenage son (age 14)
Is there anywhere we can move as our current building is being taken over by the bank? I have been on disability for 2 or 3 years now.
