Multi-Tasking With a Monkey

A policeman was driving down the highway when he came upon a car wrapped around a utility pole. Stopping to investigate, he found the driver, battered and bruised, sitting on a rock a few feet away from the car. When the policeman started to ask what happened the driver turned out to be incoherent from shock and unable to answer any questions.

Hearing a pounding noise the policeman turned and saw a monkey trapped in the car. After freeing the monkey, who was unharmed, the policeman shook his head and said, “I wish you could talk and tell me what happened”.

The monkey immediately held up his right hand for attention and then with his left hand mimicked holding a cell phone to his ear and talking. The policeman said, “he was talking on his cell phone when the accident happened?” and the monkey nodded yes.

As the policeman started to turn away the monkey signaled there was more and mimicked eating a hamburger with his right hand. The policeman said “and he was eating a hamburger at the same time?”. Again the monkey nodded yes.

As the policeman reached for his citation book to write a ticket, the monkey again signaled that there was still more. Flabbergasted, the policeman watched as the monkey mimicked holding the phone with his shoulder and typing on a laptop computer with his left hand while eating the hamburger with his right. “He was talking on the phone, eating a hamburger AND typing on his computer? Asked the policeman. “Who was driving the car” and the monkey stood up tall and proudly mimicked holding the steering wheel and driving.
