A meeting summoned by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and other top shots of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reconcile Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako and the leaders of his State House of Assembly who are threatening to impeach him, ended in deadlock yesterday.

PDP National Chairman Prince Vincent Ogbulafor told reporters soon after he emerged from the meeting at the State House that another reconciliatory meeting between the two parties has been scheduled for the Presidential Villa. He said Vice President Goodluck Jonathan would chair the new peace meeting.

Governor Nyako was served with an impeachment notice by the state House of Assembly on Monday for allegedly committing 16 impeachable offences. The six-page impeachment notice tabled before the House by the Deputy Speaker, Aliyu Isa Ahmadu and signed by 20 of the 25 members accused the governor of gross misconduct in the performance of his official duties and other unconstitutional acts.

Yesterday's meeting, chaired by President Yar'adua was attended by Vice President Jonathan, Governor Nyako, Ogbulafor, and the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Mr. James Barka.

At the end of the meeting which lasted for several hours, both Nyako and Speaker Barka declined to make any categorical statements on its outcome. Nyako parried reporters' questions and hurriedly walked away. But when asked if he was satisfied with the reconciliatory move, Speaker Barka said, "No. We have had a meeting and the chairman has said it all, and I will meet with my members."

At another meeting at PDP's Wadata Plaza national secretariat earlier yesterday, Barka had maintained the same position on the crisis. He insisted that the House's decision to impeach the governor still stands since the impeachment notice had been served on him.

He said: "The meeting is okay. It's alright. This meeting was arranged before the impeachment. So, this meeting is not about impeachment. It's about a family affair. It's PDP affair."

When asked to comment on the impeachment move, he said, "Well, the notice was just served yesterday (Monday). So, we are still there. Of course, you wait and see. Of course, impeachment is impeachment and to that extent we gave notice. When the notice expires, then you can come and ask me."

However, after the State House peace meeting, Ogbulafor said the issues have been discussed and blames apportioned where necessary. He said "it is a family problem and it's being taken care of." The following conversation then took place:

Reporters: Has the problem been resolved?

Ogbulafor: "It is the party that intervened. We have solved the problem, it is a family problem and it's being taken care of. We only went to brief the president on what we did and the president is happy with the party. And the governor and the speaker are one and same. Everything is over and we are happy.

How was it solved?

"We listened to both parties and where there is need to apportion blames, we did and both of them saw where they made mistakes. Nobody is above mistakes.

Edo State PDP members recently expressed dissatisfaction with the manner of your intervention in the party's crisis in the state, are you sure the same thing will not happen in the Adamawa case?

We shall wait and see but the important thing is that we have agreed that the speaker will advise his members and we will discuss, and this time with the vice president, but just to intimate them with the decisions reached.

In view of the gravity of the allegations against the governor, would you say solving this problem the family way is in the interest of Nigeria?

The gravity of allegations is shallow. I think it is shallow. It is just a misunderstanding which is normal in any administration. Politics is not like religion, but even in religion they disagree, in church they disagree, so there is bound to be disagreement".
