Wouldn’t it be great to have an office that was more organized?  You know, one that actually had file cabinets to keep important papers tucked neatly away.  It could even have bookshelves to house all those volumes of information you keep on the floor next to your wobbly old desk.  What’s that you say?  You can’t afford new office furniture.  Maybe you can’t drop a bundle on traditional furnishings right now, but have you considered flat pack furniture?  This is an excellent alternative for people who need functionality, good looks and budget pricing.

Why Flat Pack Furniture?

Flat pack furniture, which is also called ready-to-assemble or KD (knock down) furniture, is steadily growing in popularity.  The idea was first conceived in the1950s.  A man who worked for a small, Swedish furniture manufacturer was trying to take a table home from work, but it wouldn’t fit in the trunk of his car.  He ended up cutting off the table legs, transporting the table and then reattaching the legs when he got home.

This experience was enough to get Gillis Lundgren thinking.  What if furniture parts could be made and packaged in small sections, transported easily to its destination and assembled on site?  He took the concept to his employer and they liked the idea.  Soon, IKEA began to produce the first flat pack furniture mass-produced for consumers.

Since then, flat pack furniture has become readily available from a number of producers.  It is offered in a myriad of styles and finishes and there are designs that work in every room of your home.  Because it is less costly to produce, transport and store, everyone saves money…especially you.

Assembling your Furniture

Because of the significant savings you experienced, you may actually be able to afford to pay a pro to put the furniture together for you.  This would save you a lot of time and energy and you won’t even have to worry about whacking your thumb with a hammer.

If you can’t indulge in a furniture assembler, it is certainly possible to do the job yourself or with a little assistance from a friend or family member.  Assembly instructions are included with flat pack furniture and, in most cases, the necessary tools are also provided for your convenience.

If you opt to assemble the furniture yourself, it is essential that you read the directions before you begin the project.  Tackle the job in an organized manner and it will make the task much simpler.  Assemble the furniture in the room where you will use it so you don’t have to manipulate the finished item through doorframes or up stairways.  Sort out all the pieces and hardware before you begin the assembly so you know all the necessary parts have been included.  Don’t rush.  Larger pieces of furniture such as armoires and entertainment centers may be time consuming to put together, but the finished product will make it time well spent.

Now you really can have the organized, functional office of your dreams at an affordable price.  Flat pack furniture is a great way to decorate your workplace, or any room, with stylish affordable furniture.
