Description, tags, category
The first thing you'll have to do when uploading is to fill out the Title, description, tags, and
category of your video.
Title - Think of the title as your headline.
Be creative and try to get the readers attention. Be sure to also use the popular keywords that
relate to your video.
If you are uploading a video for your golf site, and the video is about "putting", make sure your
headline lets people know that. Use a title like "Precision Putting Made Easy" or "How to
Make 15 Foot Putts With Your Eyes Closed".
Treat your title as if it's the headline for an ad you are running.
Description - The description box is very important. This space will allow you to give your
viewers more information about your video.
It will also allow you to give your viewers more information about you and your website. You
should try to use the description box to drive viewers to your website where you can make
them an offer or try to collect information/email from them.
The first line of of your description should be the URL of the website you want viewers to visit.
It should also ALWAYS be in http://www.yourdomainhere.com form. This is
extremely important.
If you put it in this form it will show up as a clickable link in the description box
on YouTube.
If you simply put www.yourdomainhere.com, it will NOT be a clickable link.
You want that link to be clickable because it will make it easier for your viewers to get to your
website. They don't have to type in the URL or copy and paste it into their browser. Just
click. Makes things easy.
The next part of your description should be a short description of your video.
So, to again use the golf and "putting" example, your next paragraph in the description box
would be something like - "This video will show you how take your putting to the next level,
and help you shave those 'hidden' strokes off your score!"
The next part of your description should make an offer to the customer in an effort to lead
them to your website or squeeze page.
In our example, the next part would say something like this, "For more information on how to
improve you golf game in only 12 minutes a day, visit http://www.madeupgolfsite.com".
Again, make sure it's in that format so the link is clickable.
Or maybe you're offering a special report...then you would say something like, "Get your
FREE copy of "7 Steps to Putting Like A Pro" right now at http://www.madeupgolfsite.com."
Use the description box to promote your site. And make those links clickable. This is
important not only because it makes it easier for viewers to get to your site, but also because
these description boxes are indexed by search engines like Google. This is a FREE one way
link from YouTube to your site. Definitely a good thing.
Tags - The tags are basically the "keywords" of your video. These tags will play an important
role in helping YouTube identify your video. It will help determine what search terms your
video shows up under.
It's important to include all the possible tags that relate to your video.
In our golf example, our tags would be - "golf putting lower your score". I would also add tags
like "Tiger Woods USGA The Masters Phil Mickelson Ernie Els birdie par bogey hole-in-one".
These tags aren't directly related to our video but they are golf related terms that might be
searched for on YouTube. Especially the names of the golfers like "Tiger Woods".
Someone searching for "Tiger Woods" may also be interested in your video, by including that
keyword in the tags you increase your chances of showing up in search results for that term.
You also increase your chances of showing up at the end of a video when YouTube
recommends more related videos to the viewer.
Category - Some sites allow you to pick more than one category for your video. YouTube
does not. YouTube has 12 categories pick the one that best fits your video.
The categories are :
Arts & Animation
Autos & Vehicles
Comedy
Entertainment
Music
News & Blogs
People
Pets & Animals
Science & Technology
Sports
Travel & Places
Video Game
he next step of uploading your video is to "browse" for it on your computer. Once you find
the video the only thing left to do is choose whether you want the video Public or Private.
If you're using the videos for marketing, you want Public, which is the default, so you don't
have to do anything except click the "Upload Video" button.
