Violation: Duplicate Content

If you receive an email stating that your Hub has been spotted as having duplicate content, it means that your Hub contains text that also appears on another site or Hub, or is substantially similar or closely paraphrased from another work, or works. Duplicate content is not permitted on HubPages. In order for your Hub to be republished, you will need to ensure that its content is original.

A Hub labeled as having duplicate content may have:

  • Text that appears in whole or large part on another site. Even if you wrote the text or retain the copyright, you may not republish it on HubPages. When content is present on multiple sites, search engines devalue the content that has a later publication date. Thus, if you have already published content on another site and republish it on HubPages, your Hub and possibly the entire site will be penalized by search engines.
  • Text that already appears in whole or large part on HubPages. Copying or paraphrasing another's Hub or one of your own, is not permitted on HubPages. Truly original content is always the best.
  • Text copied from multiple sources. Cutting and pasting content, even from a variety of sites is prohibited. Hubs need to be written in your own words, just like academic works.
  • Substantial similarity to another work

Please note that the issue of duplicate content is completely separate from issues of plagiarism or copyright. All that it means is that we found text very similar to what is contained in this Hub elsewhere on the Web.

Violation: DMCA Notification

Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice - If you receive this email, we have been notified by a copyright holder that your Hub violates their copyright.

Because of this email, your Hub has been identified as a possible violation of our Terms of Use. In order to have your Hub republished, you must remove all content that you do not have the legal right to use. If you believe that the takedown notice has been filed in error, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act has provisions for filing a counter claim. Should you choose to do so, Chilling Effects has a guide to filing counter claims here.

For more information on how to file your own DMCA claim, see the box to the right.

The Legal Use of Content and Photos on HubPages

When you sign up for HubPages, you agree to use only content to which you hold the necessary rights. Basically, this means that if you did not create the content yourself (write the text or take the picture), you must have permission to use it from the person or organization that did. For more information on how to legally use photos, see the box to the right.

How to Republish a Moderated Hub

If you receive an email that your Hub has been unpublished, you have an opportunity to edit it and make it compliant with our Terms of Use. If you would like to make changes to the Hub so it meets the HubPages standards, please do so. When you are ready to have HubPages review it again, click the "Submit for Publication" button. We will review your Hub, and if appropriate, republish it. If your Hub is republished, you will receive an email letting you know. This process can take up to 72 hours. Please remember, Hubs without substantial improvement will not be republished, and we will be monitoring any changes made to Hubs after republication. If you have any other questions, feel free to email team@hubpages.com
