Moderation Help: Violation - Overly Promotional
86Violation: Overly Promotional
It's always a good idea to make sure that your Hub is creating value for your reader. If you are simply writing a Hub to create backlinks for your site or to make money from an affiliate, you aren't creating value for our community and your Hub will probably be moderated - if it hasn't been already. Purely promotional offers, and Hubs designed only to promote other sites or businesses, are not allowed. There are places on the web to publish solely for backlinks, HubPages is not one of them.
If you receive this warning, your Hub has been identified as excessively promoting another site or sites. It may have too many links, links unrelated to the content, an excessive number of Amazon or eBay products, or appear to be solely designed to procure back links. If your intent is to create a great Hub for your readers and your Hub has been moderated as Overly Promotional, it is very easy to fix. Simply make sure that none of the following rules are being broken, make any necessary revisions, and submit your Hub for publication.
Overly Promotional Rules:
- Your Hub can have a MAXIMUM of 2 links to any one domain. Links in the image source field in the Photo Capsule count toward this limit.
- You can not give a short teaser and a link to "read more" or "continue". The Hub must have the full content you want to present as well as a title that represents your content.
- Your Hub may not contain an RSS feed that directs to the same site as a link within the body of the Hub.
- Your Hub should contain at least 50 words of text for every product displayed in Amazon and eBay Capsules.
For more clarification on each of these rules, as well as the warnings you may receive, read below.
Rule 1: Your Hub can have a maximum of 2 links to any one domain. Links in the image source field in the Photo Capsule count toward this limit.
If you have created a Hub simply to procure backlinks, your Hub will most likely be moderated and unpublished. HubPages allows two links to one domain, including image source links. Again, links to well-known resources like Wikipedia, news sites, etc, will not be held to this same standard.
If you have written a Hub with more than two links to one domain, your Hub will be unpublished and you will receive an email letting you know about the violation. To remedy the problem, remove any excess links and submit your Hub for publication.
Rule 2: Short teaser and a link to "read more" or "continue" are not allowed. Hubs must have complete information and appropriate titles.
When a reader finds your Hub they don't want to be led to another site; they want to have all or most of the information given to them in one place. Hubs that ask users to click on a link to "read more" or "continue here" are against our Terms of Use. In addition to it being a poor user experience to have to click elsewhere for the information promised by the Hub's title. We have to protect our readers from going to unknown sites that could be harmful. That said, we welcome Hubbers to share links to sites at which they might learn more about the Hub's subject so long as these are not purely self-serving.
If your Hub has been moderated because it does not offer the full information promised by the title, you will need to edit the Hub so that it is complete before you can submit it for publication. HubPages doesn't allow duplicate content, so you are not allowed to copy the content from your link and publish it on HubPages.
A Hub's title must be reflected in the Hub content. If you have a title that does not correctly represent your content, your Hub can be unpublished until it is fixed. For more information on deceptive titles, check out our Learning Center guide.
Rule 3: Your Hub may not contain an RSS feed that directs to the same site as a link within the body of the Hub
If you link to a certain site within the body of your Hub, you cannot also put an RSS feed into the same Hub.
Rule 4: Your Hub should contain at least 50 words of text for every product displayed in Amazon and eBay Capsules
If you have received an email regarding your product-to-text ratio it means that your Hub has a large number of Amazon or eBay products listed in comparison to the amount of text. We require that you feature no more than 1 product for about every 50 words of original text in your Hub. This ensures that a Hub is not all products and no information.
Please note, that our calculation is based on the number of products that could be displayed for a particular capsule based on how you've configured it, which may be more than the number of products that are currently displayed. For example, if you have a keyword-based capsule configured to show 4 products, but there is only 1 product right now that matches the search, it will still count as 4 products for product ratio purposes.
Hubs with too many products may be moderated as overly promotional. We recommend reducing the number of products configured for display on your Hub, or adding more detailed information about the products.
What is a Warning?
Warnings are basically a "heads up" that HubPages sees your content as a possible violation. If you see a warning on one of your Hubs, make sure that your Hub does not violate our Terms of Use. If your Hub follows our Terms of Use, simply disregard the warning and continue writing your fabulous Hubs! If your warning lets you know that your Hub cannot be published, and you are confident that your Hub meets our Terms of Use, then please email the HubPages support team.
Specific Warnings for Overly Promotional Hubs
WARNING: This Hub is at risk of being identified as Overly Promotional because it has 3 or more links to a single domain.
- This Hub has more than two links to a single domain. HubPages allows up to two links to a single domain per Hub. Links in the image source field of the Photo Capsule count toward this limit. RSS feeds with links in excess of two are permitted, but only when links elsewhere in the Hub do not point to the same site.
- If your Hub has more than two links to one domain, simply remove the links.
WARNING: This Hub is at risk of being identified as Overly Promotional or Substandard
- This Hub is too short to support outbound links. Short Hubs or "teasers" with links are flagged as Overly Promotional, and very short Hubs may also be flagged as Substandard. Please add more content to this Hub before publishing it.
- HubPages is a place for complete articles, not for links to another site containing the information.
WARNING: Too many product listings
- Your Hub has a large number of Amazon or eBay products listed in comparison to the amount of text. We require that you feature no more than 1 product for about every 50 words of original text in your Hub.
