How to Use the Comments Capsule

The Comments Capsule allows users to share their comments and feedback on a particular Hub.

The Comments Capsule is automatically included in your Hub, but you always have the option to delete or hide it should you want your Hub to be closed to comments.

There are several settings available when it comes to moderating and receiving comments on a particular Hub. To view and change them:

  1. Click "edit".
  2. If you do not want comments to be visible before you approve them, check the first box. This means that an individual’s comment will be invisible until you approve it.
  3. If you prefer that only signed-in users have the ability to post comments, check the second box. This will assure that everyone who comments on you page has a profile that you can visit.
  4. If you want the most recent comments to appear first, click the third box.
  5. If you would like to stop comments, you can check the fourth box. This will disable any further comments from being posted but will retain previously posted comments.
  6. Finally, if you want to put a cap on the maximum number of comments that appear on your Hub, you can select a cap of 20, 50, or 100 by clicking on the drop down box. Its automatic default is to show all comments.
  7. When you are finished making changes, click "Save".
  8. Please note, you are automatically following your own Hub when you publish which means you will automatically receive an email when someone leaves a comment. If you would like to modify these settings site-wide, you are able to do so under your My Profile page and Email Settings. If you would like to modify the settings Hub-by-Hub, you have to unfollow the Hub by clicking the "unfollow" button above the comments capsule or by unfollowing the Hub when you receive an email.
  9. You can read and moderate your comments when you are outside of edit mode or from your My Account > Comments page.
  10. The Comments Capsule can be moved to any location you choose except for the first full-width capsule in a Hub. However, most Comments Capsules are at the end of a Hub.

The Commenting Accolade

When you leave insightful and useful comments on HubPages we reward you with a commenting accolade. There are 8 levels in our commenting accolade. Your level can go up or down depending on how often you comment and whether you have written engaging and useful comments. Comments like, "nice Hub" will not help your accolade level.

Along with having your accolade on your profile, we now have your commenting status displayed when you leave a comment on a Hub. The below screenshot shows how we do this. The color codes are as follows:

  • Green - Hub Author
  • Grey - Levels 1-4
  • Blue - Levels 5-8

Following Comments

When you leave a comment on another Hubber's Hub, you have the option of following those comments. There is a box that will default as checked and you will be notified via email if a comment is left. If you would prefer that comment box to default is unchecked, you can set that under My Account > Activity > Hubs you Follow.
