The HubGreeter Program

You may have heard that there is a group of elite Hubbers who take it upon themselves to welcome new writers into the community. These friendly people are known as HubGreeters!

What are HubGreeters?

HubGreeters first emerged in the HubPages community as HubFreaks. HubGreeter gamergirl wrote a Hub explaining HubGreeters' origins- check it out if you'd like to know more.

What differentiates HubGreeters from the typical friendly Hubbers out there is they work through a special interface which allows them to view all new Hubbers as a group. They can scroll through and select hubbers to greet. Typically these are newbies who seem to have good Hubber potential, but who might need a little boost to get started. HubGreeters can also "flag" newbies for being under age (not 18) or overly commercial.

Helping out new Hubbers can make a big difference! Often HubGreeters welcome new Hubbers by asking them a question, following them, sending fan mail, commenting on a new Hub, and/or sending a direct message.

Many Hubbers don't know what to write about, hence getting a question might offer some inspiration, while getting messages, fan mail, and comments shows how wonderful the HubPages community is when it comes to providing support and feedback. These nice features are obvious for HubPages veterans, but HubPages' perks are less apparent to newbies because new Hubbers don't have many Hubs and don't know many Hubbers. This is why a couple of simple actions can make a big difference.

An easy way to recognize HubGreeters is by the "elite" symbol on their profiles.

Once you do, we (the lovely HP moderaters) begin the review process based on the following criteria:

• Minimum of six months' worth of experience as a Hubber
• Compliance with HubPages' terms of service (no infractions for six months)
• Friendly behavior in communications on HubPages.com and off the site with regards to HubPages matters
• High quality, original Hubs
• Excellent written English
• A Hubscore over 80
• A Great Commenter Accolade level of V or above

As soon as we've finished the review process, we'll get back to you. If you don't make it the first time, you are more than welcome to reapply later.

Of course, you don't have to be a HubGreeter to welcome new Hubbers to the community. If you see someone new on the site, feel free to do the same thing HubGreeters do! Ask a question, comment, send fan mail, or send a message... you'll brighten someone's day- and probably brighten your own as well!
