Choosing and Uploading your HubPages Profile Picture
After registering an account, one of the first things you should do is upload a profile image.
Profile images can be an image of yourself, an illustration, or a photo you've taken (you can use anything you want) - provided you own the image and it's appropriate for ALL eyes.
While many Hubbers choose to use illustrations and abstract photos as their profile images, using a photo of yourself can add a professional polish to your profile and Hubs, and is ideal if you seek to build a strong online writing career.
Steps to Upload a Profile Image
Uploading a profile image is easy, just use the following instructions:
- Click My Account > Profile > Edit Profile
- Click "upload photo" (or, if you already have one, "change photo")
- You will then be taken to the image upload page
- Click "Choose a Photo" to choose an image file from your computer that you would like to use as your profile photo. Allowed formats are JPEG, GIF and PNG formats.
- The original image should no larger than 8 megabytes, but the smaller, the better. As it will take less time to upload and less chance of not uploading properly.
- Next you will be allowed to crop the image. The dimensions automatically scale to 200x200 pixels. If your photo is smaller than 200x200 pixels, your profile image will be stretched, and as a result, pixelated.
- You can move around the crop image box until you are satisfied with your image. Click "Crop this Image" and your photo will be saved!
A Few More Pointers...
- Adult content is not allowed in profile photos. So no porn, nudity, or any other fun bits of flesh. If you have an inappropriate profile image, the image may be removed or your account may be banned.
- Your profile image can be changed at any time, but be aware that people often recognize the profile image before they even read your username, particularly in Forums. As they say, first impressions last.
Now that you have a username and profile image, let's move on to your last step of setup: Writing your Bio.
