~ A Lifetime...~
I can have a suit of armor and a heart of steel
I protect the little ones like the lioness, her pride…
But all it takes
Is the creaking of the stale, mildewed hallways
Of my past
To shatter me like a porcelain doll.
The sounds, like a time machine
And I tremble now
Like I did then…
Years and years, and now, a lifetime…
Notches etched in the rod
Which is the timeline of my life
That is whittled away
Like the reed in the craftsman’s hands
And a lifetime lived
Is a lifetime lost
As it lands
In shavings
On the floors of time.
