These serene moments of autumn.....

A ramble about life

No matter where I am , walking in the pastures with the dogs , wandering along the dirt roads of my home or working alone on a building somewhere , In the back of my mind and at the fore-front of my sense's are the influences of these natural surroundings. Tonight near sunset , I look up at the leaves of September turned aloft in a cooling breeeze to show their silvery backsides , I look to the forested treeline of pines , firs , spruce intermixing with hardwoods , maples , beech and alder , and along the shadows beneath them where the high grass feels cool to the touch- September , my favorite .

My life too , in reflection , perhaps is in the "september ' of my time here on earth , maybe now more than ever I wonder about the spiritual journey that we are a part of.... or apart from ! What mysteries we observe in this life , what marvels we experience in this wondrous universe . There are times when serenity itself seems a place that was created just for me and yet , times when the very thing we need the most evades my capture .
Remember , "Lord grant me the serenity to except"............

It is those quiet moments in natures arena that capture my imagination , my entire being , yet only if I let it in ! Yes , I actually find myself walking along completely in tune with whats going on around me . In the distant forests one sound will trigger my inner being and I will stop and listen for a moment , a coyote yipping and calling out to his or her family ? Overhead tonight the turkey vultures ride the high thermals and circle around again and again until they teach thier young the beauty of the warm air currents . Nature knows best about living ....I mean truely living in peace .

My advice to you !........get out there ! Enjoy it ! Pick up a maple leaf and feel it disintegrate in between your fingertips . Watch as the red squirrels hurry about and chatter away as they prepare for winter . Don't just drive by this life at seventy -six miles an hour , slow down , forget about the office , say no to the family , put away your raincoat and grab a sweater . Tuck your hair up under a hat and live .........for once . The television , the lawnmower , the laptop, they will all be there when you get back . Come join me for a walk , take my hand , we won't speak one word , I'll show you serenity ! I know where it is .

Such a beautiful hub! I love to walk with my dogs in the country. I always take my camera and try to capture some of natures beauty to bring back home with me. Fall is the most beautiful time of year. You created a wonderful piece here! Voting this up and awesome, have a wonderful day! :)

I have to tell you what happened yesterday. I have a red squirrel who lives in my tree. I feed him, He came on my patio and took his paw and scratched a hole in my sliding glass door screen. I think he really wanted to come in, when i opened the door he ran to his tree. I put some peanuts in the fork of the tree and he had a feast. I too love nature as you do. Loved your piece.Serenity..Who could ask for more..Cheers my friend..

Now that's a meander I could love. It's not just the physical trek. It's the mental and emotional being and going there. Very beautiful, Ed, - so expressive by one who knows how to- and why to. Even though red maples and red squirrels aren't native to my outdoors, there are oaks and gray squirrels here. And in my other place, there are mesquites and ground squirrels. Wherever the physical terrain, it's the inner place and climate that matters and deserves tending, and where one melds with serenity.

Lovely photographs and sentiments. You are so right to encourage, no beseech us to get out into the natural world around us. There is so much to experience and all too often we are in the highways in our steel cages. I like your essay a great deal. Sharing. ~~ Theresa

Your photographs indeed reflect that serenity and peace. I could sit before one of those scenes all day long and stop looking only long enough for a nap!

Autumn is my favourite season. It's spring here now and it never seems to stay the say for more than a day: warm one day, strong winds and rain the next. Autumn is so much more peaceful and the roses and other flowers have the chance to be at their best, too. I enjoyed your hub.

Good evening Ed. A wonderful and much needed reminder about how much we need to be out in nature, of how important it is to find solitude and commune with all that is around us. Our lives are too,too busy, and often with inconsequential things. I felt more peaceful and relaxed just having read your essay. Tomorrow morning I will spend some time outside with the birds and squirrels before I go to work. Sharing. ~~ Theresa

Another definition of serenity is peace of mind. I love the interplay of nature's beauty with one's search for inner peace in this article. Someone once said, "All nature resounds with the affirmation of God, and it remains only for man to listen to these divine reverberations in his own soul." The Greek philosopher Empedocles, convince that man is the maker of his own grief said "We would have inward peace but will not look within."
