Mid-80’s 911 Porsche

Source

By: Wayne Brown

Racing red merging into black, green, then to dark blue

With me driving it down the road waving back at you

As it races through my mind, I feel ever so sad

About that classic mid-80’s 911 Porsche…I never had

A turbo breathing pure fire with a top of Targa-type

Built for wind in your hair speed…fast as the light

A real sleek sports car not your mama’s family Cad

That classic mid-80’s 911 Porsche that I never had

Sporting that shiny, black leather bra across its nose

Those wide fender curves say that ‘it really goes”

Fuel-injection, a tight six-speed tranny makes it bad

That classic mid-80’s 911 Porsche that I never had

Cruising smoothly past, waving to all the pretty girls

Feel like drivin’ it to California and surfin’ in the curls

That engine moan; the flashy paint job so very rad

The classic mid-80’s 911 Porsche that I never had

Maybe it’s not yet too late; dreams can still come true

Maybe I’ll make it big as a writer…really earn my dollar due

And If I can I will and salve my long-suffering case of sad

By buying that mid-80’s 911 Porsche that I never had

The Porsche 911 what a beauty! Once had a dream of owning one myself but didn't have enough money and had to settle for something else :)

Enjoyed your poem.

@Just Ask Susan...Yes, some of them are finally getting in my price range but I am now too fond of the money to let it go! LOL! I'll have to hit it bigger as a writer as my AdSense money will take at least 20 more years to accumulate to the price. Thanks Susan! ~WB

If I could, I would make you a gift of this magnificent 911Porsche. I love your poem Wayne! Will share with others and thanks!

Oh hi Wayne. It's me waving at you as you zoom by in your delightful Porsche 911. Oooooh. What a babe magnet they are. I once dated a guy who had an orange Porsche Targa and he let me drive it. Once. Just once. After that I was known as lead foot. Mmmmm. Porsche.

I had so much fun dreaming about cars like this one ----- now I am glad I never had one,,, it may have ruined the dreams.

Here's to your getting that Porsche 911 dream of a car one day, Wayne. For me, it's the Lamborghini Aventado that does the trick. Makes me weak in the knees just thinking about it.

I owned a beautiful 87 911...see my story on my HubPages...enjoyed yours.

The Porsche 911 is still the only car that gives me a funny butterfly feeling in my stomach. We use to have a 911 --miss it still.

OMG, I had my eye on a brown one. I used to visit it everyday in the lot of a foreign car dealer. I hope your dream comes true! Up and awesome.

@vocalcoach...Well, thank you...that would be a wonderful gift...best one I ever got! LOL! Glad you had fun with the poem. ~WB

@PegCole17....Those cars have a way of bringing out that leadfoot trait in us. I wonder if they'll let me park mine down at the home? LOL! Thanks much! ~WB

@Ericdrieker....You have a point there...sometimes we build things up so high in our dreams that the real thing ends up being a disappointment. Gotta watch that! LOL! Thanks much! ~WB

(Sigh)

Nostalgia dictates that my heart must return to my 1962 Corvette 327 with 4 on the floor.

It would never compete with your 911, of course, but still...

Wayne Brown profile image

Wayne Brown 3 years ago from Texas Author

@WillStarr...I had the Corvette, Will and I got over that in about two years though there were many things I loved about that car when I gave it up. Your desire to own one with a 327 is the best. I had the 427/435...a tempermental beast. By the time I get the Porsche, I may not be able to bend down that far anymore! LOL! Thanks much! ~WB

How true, Wayne!

By the time we can finally afford one, we no longer remember why we wanted one!

Wayne I love the humor here, I hope we all succeed at writing and I wish to buy me a new BMW concept car that's not ever going to be for sale, but its worth it to keep dreaming on it right!

Awesome fun poem bro, reminds me of my Silver Bullet one I wrote a little while back, Nice one.

Thumbs up high, 5 of them puppies and sharing immediately, thanks for sharing your creative powers for poetic vice with us all bro!

@CloudExplorer...Thank you! I have already owned the big block mid-60's wild-thing Corvette but never the Porsche. I have owned a VW Super Beetle for 40+ years which I bought new after I had the 'Vette...big switch. Everyone tells me the VW is simply a Porsche without the lockwashers! I would hope that the experience is better than that but more than likely one would have to go to the turbo model to find out and those are still seriously out of reach price-wise. But, as you say, we can dream and express our desires in verse. Let's hope I don't get overly turned on by the women! LOL! Thanks much for the kind words of praise. I do not seem much lately as my views are down by 90% with the new format and I have ceased adding anything new to my portfolio here. I have also moved some stuff to my new website but I am limited there with overall content...which almost 700 hubs would exceed. So, I am taking my time in shuffling things and I may just leave some in place. Thanks much. ~WB

Wow! I almost feel like I was along for the ride! I can relate...many (many!) years ago, I had a classic MG, and (a '59) if I really...my sweet little baby...and drove it up to the start of the 9th month of my first pregnancy. It became an issue, not so much one of fitting behind the wheel, I never let myself gain, but it was more the getting up and out.. it was so low to the ground, and convertible of course, I' could file my nails just by hanging my arm out the window. I loved that car dearly....had to switch to my husband's next choices from then on...meaty, growling, gritty cars lol

Maybe if the gods smile and the powerball magic kicks in, I'll get another MG, Austin-Healy, or. (if u dream, then dream BIG) a classic Jag XKE Loved this post, FELT this post....thanks so much for stirring up my own memories.....hugs! Voting up and sharing!!!! An Awesome post

Porsche has done a great job in maintaining the same car design for years. I give them that. Great hub, voted up and shared.

@D. Juris Stetser....It's definitely an itch I need to scratch except that I am more careful about it in my later years. I had Corvette fever right out of college and ended up with a sunfire yellow convertible roadster with the 427 big block engine. I drove it all the way to California on Route 66 on my way to flight school with the USAF. That car brought me a lot of joy and a lot of frustration with its tempermental nature. A couple of years later, I traded it in for a British Racing Green VW Super Beetle...which I still have some 40+ years later. But, the lines on the older 911's really do get to me and I am overcome with the same feeling as when a highly attractive lady that I know I can't have waltzes into the room....LOL! Thanks much! ~WB

@ladyjane1....Long time, no see LJ! I think this was officially my last poem filed on HP. They keep informing me that my work does not meet their quality standars so I decided to end their suffering rather than attempt to convince them that they might be wrong. I see that you are messaging from Texas...is that home again? Thanks much! ~WB

@Carl8033....Very true. Their lines are almost timeless, especially in the turbo models with that wide track look. Thanks much for the good words! ~WB

LOL I know what you mean...it's a love affair!

And we ladies (most of us I guess) know it's useless

to even try to compete or come between a guy and his car...Have a super Monday Wayne

PS I would've loved tagging along on that Route 66 run..I must have gypsy blood in me....love that kind of trip...

WHat??? Well that cannot be right....Are you still gonna write anything other than poems? I don't know why things have changed so much on here lately. The attraction of hubpages was that it was a forum where we could write whatever we wanted and now they are putting so many stipulations. A lot of the so called quality hubs are boring as hell....who knows....And im still in mo just lazy to update my profile hehe....take care Wayne and cheers.

@DJS...If I get to feeling "richer" and land that Porsche, I just might have to take that drive again. Funny how we look for all these places in the world to visit and we have not yet really explored our own world. Thanks ~ WB

@ladyjane1...Well, I had first decided to clean my site out completely here at HP but that is a large task now and some of the stuff is time and circumstance related. I have a new website which I will drop you in an email but I have just about filled it up with the things that I have moved. If I add much more, I will have to buy the industrial spam protection program and that is hard to justify when the site is not bringing in any money. I have not posted any type of writing here sinc May 28. I am probably going to leave some stuff here and selectively move some of the other stuff as time permits. I see no reason to align myself with their quality standards as all they represent are a bunch of search engine optimizations which supposedly make the article easier to find on the 'net. It also makes the article more appealing to those looking for SEO documents which they can pirate and pedal to other sites. I question their standards in that since they have made the changes, my views have dropped tenfold. Basically, they are putting lipstick on a pig as far as I am concerned then praying that you won't notice that it is a pig. My last article was entitled "...There Is A Time". I hope you will read it and watch the videos as I thought it came out quite good. I will send those links to you. ~WB

Thanks Wayne I look forward to reading it....you know I haven't been on here very much since I left the elites but it seems to me as well that something happened cuz i don't get paid as often anymore and my views are quite down as well...voodoo I guess lol Btw next March my mother is turning 80...we are having a big celebration at my sisters rancho in Corpus...all the sisters will be there and consider yourself invited pal!!!!! CHEERS!!

@ladyjane1....So I can come down and read my poetry to you folks all afternoon, huh? That sounds great. My mom just turned 85 in May so I know how special that is for family. I am sure that there will be a lot of "sister stuff" going on. My wife loves to do things with her two sisters as well. March will be an excellent time for it as well with spring in bloom. Thanks much! ~WB

Greetings! Voted Up and Awesome--not sure if that matters after reading previous comments--but I love the poem. And what is also cool is how I landed here. I had just read an article by Marlin55 and in the article, he references a Porche Boxter. Then, somehow I landed here--which I think is pretty cool...as was my 2000 Mustang Red Convertible --I called it my mid-life crisis car.

Best Always,

@ocfireflies (Kim)....Thank you. This was the last bit of poetry that I placed on HubPages having grown frustrated with their focus for SEO. Glad you landed here...maybe it is a sign that I can still count on getting that Porsche! My work will continue to be here as the task of moving over 600 items is just too overwhelming. Maybe I'll come back again one day when I hear that things have changed for the better. Thanks much! ~WB

Wishing you all that is needed in order to get that Porsche. If you do get that Porsche, make sure take a spin for me.
