A Big Storm Heading Our Way
The Calm Before The Snow
I walked around the street almost bare
In the yard were small traces of winter
The ground glazed white with a combination snow and ice
Spring coming a little bit closer
To early to tell
The weather person reports winter is not over yet
They have been wrong before
They can be wrong again
Years ago February 8th
Was a day to remember
The blizzard of 78
Where snow blanketed the whole northeast
I was thirteen years old and one city over
There was a cute fourteen year old girl
Twenty years later we would meet
Growing up in the world we knew
Experencing the same feelings I felt
Only from a woman's view
Her parents taught her the difference between right and wrong
If she called from the police station
She is spending the night
If she called from the hospital
She better be hurt
Because she did something stupid to get there
Either way her parents would be furious
My parents didn't put up with talking back
If you got in trouble with a teacher or another adult
They took sides with that adult
You had better have respect for anyone older than you
Through years of experience
They were right most of the time
We were brought up to have good manners
No elbows on the table
If there was food in your plate
You didn't leave your seat until it was gone
You asked to be excused when you left the table
Helping with the dishes and the chores were a given
Taking out the metal barrels before the trash man came
We had to put our garbage in a pail by the side of the house
When the garbage man came and it really smelled awful
It really stunk in the hot summer days
The ice cream man came around supper time
I have to go to shovel the snow
Beautiful white coming down real steady
Visibility is bad
Ten to twelve inches expected
If you don't have to go out
Don't
Spin outs and accidents happen
Luckily my wife and I are both off from work
A lovely day to enjoy our home
