A FOX TALE...by b. Malin
INTERVIEW WITH A FOX...
Well here I am again wanting to share a story or Tale about a "Fox" Family that lived on the grounds of our Condo in Boynton Beach, Florida. "Right, you're saying...sure go on, let's hear this one". It's true, they did, and this is their story as told to me, by Mr. Fox. So sit back, relax and enjoy! But first let me give you a little introduction...
Lover Man and I first heard about the Fox Family on the first week of our stay. We were told that they were friendly and could usually be seen in the early evenings. Well we literally bumped into them the following week. We were all rounding the same corner but going in opposite directions. Mrs. Fox and I let out a Scream for neither of us expected such an encounter. She quickly backed away and as she did so, I could see a "Little" Fox peeking out from behind her. Mr. Fox cleared his throat, and said, "You've really frightened my wife". "I'm sorry I replied...we just didn't expect to see a Fox...I mean we heard that you lived here" I replied, my voice trailing off. "Yes we do" he said, a bit sarcastically I thought. "Let me guess, he went on, you two must be "Snowbirds" from where"? "Oh we're from the Jersey Shore" I said smiling warmly back at them. "And now you're here... and for how long"? He asked. "Until the end of March" I answered. "Hey listen I said, I am a writer, and I would LOVE to interview you, and write your story of how you got here". "And I'd have first Rights of Approval"? He said staring straight into my eyes. "Of course" I said. "Fine then, tomorrow night by the first pool, there is a table and two chairs, be there no later than 9:30". "Ok, see you then". I said sounding relieved and happy. They didn't say goodnight they just turned and seemed to fade into the night.
"Well, Lover Man sighed, that was interesting, it isn't every night that we have a conversation with a Fox and a date for an interview with him tomorrow. Quite the feat Little Lady, quite the feat".
The next night couldn't come soon enough for me. Lover Man said he'd join me, but that he'd sit at another table and read his book by the pool lights. So there I sat where Mr. Fox had instructed me to, and along he came, and sat in the chair opposite me. We both sat silently staring at one another. Finally, he spoke. "My name is Herman, I lived in a "Fox Hole" here for the first five years alone...I had been dumped as a baby...I was somebody's pet. When I started thinking about the opposite sex...I decided to take dancing lesson...It was Mrs. Fox, Grace, who taught me the "FOX Trot" and we fell in Love... She was one "Foxy Lady". Last year we had "Junior" and now we are like the average family...We watch "Fox" News at night and hear people use our name, like "Fox" in the hen house, there's even a Casino, called "Foxwoods" up in Connecticut and that song, he said, his voice starting to raise up..."How does it go, oh yeah, We'll catch a Fox and put him in a Box...a Hunting we will go"! "What's with you people anyway" he said staring at me. But before I could answer, he said, "And the one I really Hate, is "Sly" like a Fox...what's with that one! Oh, don't get me started, stealing our expressions like, She's a Fox"...What do HUMAN'S take us for? Mmm", he said looking at me. "Well, we're not all like that" I sighed. "Well maybe not... he replied, Listen I've got to go, this was harmless enough, you've got your story, do what you want with it...But send me a copy". And then he started to walk away, but then he stopped, and turned, and smiled as he said, "Good bye Foxy Lady" and then he disappeared into the night.
