A Forever Love

Her thoughts were deep

And the rainy day

Didn’t ease her mind

As she walked along

She reminded him

Of the wonderful love they shared

O f the first time they met

And how the love light had gleamed

She knew he remembered

The day he had proposed

It was the day

That he’d had a plane

Blaze his love for her

Across the skies

They had vowed their love for one another

On the day they had wed

And on the day of their first anniversary

They knew that they would love each other

For ever and a day

There was no rhyme or reason

To how they lived

They had always been free spirits

Never having the time to really settle down

Living day to day

She saw the smile that crossed his face

Every time she did something

That delighted him so

The stray kitten she’d saved by the river

The stray dog he’d dragged home

Through all the ups and downs

The smiles and the frowns

They went on loving each other

The was never any doubt

His blue eyes always sparkling and twinkling

The love light ever glowing

The kisses they shared so much like mellow wine

Candlelight dinners and dancing to old tunes

She went to reach for his hand

As the sun came out

A rainbow appeared in the sky

And she sighed

As she placed the rose

On the gravestone

She knew he was there beside her

And would never leave

As long as she still roamed this earth

And would be waiting for her

At the end of her days

As the sun became brighter

She looked up and smiled

Reached out for his hand

Knowing he was there

And followed the rainbow

All the way back home
