A Grudge

A Grudge

Why do you choose to hold this grudge?

What purpose does it even serve?

Just to hurt me as it well does?

You think it something I deserve?

No point in dwelling; it's all done

My hard feelings since reversed

Because arguments are not won

And it is you it mostly hurts

I totally agree, holding grudges only hurts the person holding it. I have been there and wasted a lot of time before making it right. Loved your poem and the lesson taught...

Thank you, Ruby. I wanted to post an image with it, but I have yet to find one that seems to fit. I don't hold grudges and I would say that sometimes not holding them is like a curse when another clings so tenaciously to one. But, I would rather feel pain and heal than to cling to all the other emotions that come with holding one.

I would say that most writers/poets write because of one key emotion: they have mixed feelings or else what would there be to write about.

Conflict is the essence of drama and the backbone of most stories and I also say it's good to forgive but not forget.

Thank you for your deep soulful profound writing style and once again I read/listen to the songwriter in you. Do you have any favorites?

Sending to you my warmest wishes on this night over the lake which offers a new moon

Favorites I wrote or favorite songs? If you're talking songs, I'd go on and on. Yes, I have a few favorites I wrote, also. Thank you for your frequent visits to my hub. They're much appreciated.

Lake view sounds lovely. We're getting super cell storms tonight. Not much to report as far as a view. Not even awesome cloud to ground lightning...it's all cloud to cloud.

Very wise. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves too. ~Lurana

Well, I'd written a response, but then Chrome crashed and that was that. I think I said something like forgiveness is definitely a gift that is mostly for one's own self, though if both parties forgive, it helps a relationship mend itself. Depending on the offense, some things are meant to just be forgotten, while others maybe just forgiven and not forgotten. In any case, a grudge is a heavy burden carry. There is not much point in doing so.

Ugh, Chrome was crashing on me yesterday, and making that little sick-folder face.

I like what you said. I agree. Sometimes there are unforgivable things or people you'll never see again anyway, and the "forgiveness" is maybe more of a letting go than absolving them in your heart....whatever it is, I have a few I'm struggling to let go of, but I know that the ones I have truly forgiven have given me so much peace.

It's not always easy and sometimes causes more pain than simply holding the grudge, but I feel like anger and resentment are poisons to the soul.

shanmarie - This is short and to the point, but you have expressed yourself well and reminded all of us of a pretty universal truth. A good poem. Theresa

In life grudges come until we are finally able to let go. Luckily in time I would forget why I had the grudge in the first place and then I had no choice but to forgive. Live and learn in so many ways. Thank you for reminding me.

Thank you for reading, DREAM ON. Some grudges are easier to let go of than others. Me, I rarely hold one past a few hours. It's just not me. But, the alternative to that anger and resentment is often pain, and that is something I must also remind myself to let go of.

Grudges are not always easy to forget about I find it hard to hold a grudge against anyone.

Hi DDE. I'm glad that you find it hard to hold a grudge. Sometimes it seems harder not to hold one than to hold one, but it is better in the end not to hold one.
