A Haiku - Anger

The only cure for anger is self-discipline, and both aspects of our human nature are among the most difficult to master. Master both and we can expect longer lives, and probably longer lives for those around us!

Here is a combined series of Haiku poems intended to address our angry impulses.

Do you suppose that

We are made for harsh anger?

It seems to swell fast.

Anger killed Abel.

Or was it simply some greed?

Even both it seems.

The Holy Spirit

Cannot rest easy on us

With our angry face.

Choosing less anger?

Redirect that anergy?

And live longer too?

I must choose my peace.

Can righteous anger remain?

Peace must start with me.

Psalm 37:8-9

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:5

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

What defines a true leader? It isn't just charisma and sensing their power. It isn't just making us afraid so we are mobilized. It's being true, honest, fair, up front, and out front. This Haiku examines leadership.

Demas, this is excellent. I must however cogitate on the notion that only self discipline is the cure. Truly one for sure.

I want to give you a special kudo for dealing with such an ugly thing so beautifully. There is something in that ability that is greater than ourselves.

Short but profound as well as sweet.

Ericdierker Anger seems a natural impulse. If so it is also impulsive and has to be consciously dealt with. If Christ was angered, as it seems, by the money changers and others responsible for God's temple becoming "a den of thieves", then there seems a good case for the concept of righteous anger. With that example of an exception, I believe that anger is one of mankind's weakest attributes and requires self discipline to overcome until overcoming the impulse becomes habit.

In an attempt to make lofty and sage statements, I realized it all boils down to is, " I like this hub". Nice work.

I wonder if this hub haunts me or is it just the untied shoe of the child in the photo?

I will settle on Haunting as that word is used in the positive manner. I am not a good man but through your writing I am a better man.

A challenge: Let us see how far through this new week, starting now, we can get without any anger other than righteous anger. Can we even have a "Meek Week"?

I guess that to do that we would also have to overcome self-centered pride.
