A Haiku - Enduring

A Haiku - Enduring

Lasting values live.

Living them is our task.

Not on and off though.

God's love endures. His commandments do, too.

There are countless examples around us of the sacrifices of parents for a child.

Examine just this one, and then think of others you may know of, even the examples of parents leaving everything behind to rush their children to safety, something we now read about every day and watch on television.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The awaited birth of their daughter had arrived. Mother and child survived, but there was a challenge. The child was born handicapped and would never be blessed with many of the blessings of any normal child.

Thankful that their prayers that they might be blessed with a child of their own had been answered, the mother and father devoted themselves to realizing the full potential of their handicapped child. It meant they would sacrifice their chances for a normal life, in order to give their child the love and care the child needed.

Year after year their loving care continued. While most parents teach their children to feed themselves, their child could not learn to do so and they patiently fed the child each of its meals, bathed the child each day, held and rocked the child, and in every way they loved and protected their child, year after year after year.

When age overtook the parents, they provided for their child to have needed care even after their deaths.

They had endured to the end.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Many have made covenants to God, promising to keep God's commandments and live their lives accordingly.

Not all parents endure as the parents of that handicapped child did.

Not all men and women endure in keeping God's commandments or their covenants to do so.

There are rewards along life's path for doing so, for loving God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Life's real reward comes with God's righteous judgement of how well we endure in keeping His commandments by living righteous lives of devotion to God, service to others, and avoiding judging others, while loving others without such judging.

For us, the handicapped child we are expected to love and nurture, regardless of the sacrifice, is ourselves, and our neighbors.

Love can endure. It must.

Happy is the home where love endures and spreads its love to others.

I am hoping to teach my children some wholesome values so that when they get older they will have this gift to build their buildings on. Thank you for your Haiku and I hope you have a pleasant weekend. Jamie

I believe that it would be wonderful if everyone in this world could love unconditionally just like God loves us. Hope you are having a great weekend.

Ericdierker - Wonderful comment, thanks.

jhamann - Teach a child with love, and love will usually abide.

Gypsy Rose Lee - Gardening now takes up its annual share of time and effort. It's time to endure and nurture the outcome. Enjoy the embassy shindig.

Love responds to its challenges without hesitation or counting the costs. This is a lovely reminder of it.

It is best to go forth with a positive attitude and to rightly take care of the things that you must, to truly experience joy.

Nellieanna - And without loving life is empty of value.

aviannovice - Smiles are contagious; for the saying is true, "Smile and the world smiles with you. Cry and you cry alone." Another saying is also true, "Don't cry over spilt milk; there's enough water in it already."
