A Letter To Fear - A Poem

A Letter To Fear

Dear Fear,

I know you find it important to be in control

By why is it that you must reach your dark fingers

And grasp at my soul

When you already have every inch of me?

Your so keen, your voice speaks almost as a friend,

Gaining my trust at times it seems.

Only in the end

Do I see the evil in your eyes gleam.

You feel as if you have the right to pull me a part,

I wonder why that is.

Was it like this from the beginning, from the start,

That's the question, that's the quiz.

Because I don't even remember ever not feeling you,

Like a loyal friend you've always been there

Willing to secure me from everything

Even from those who truly care.

And those are the times I realize

That all you are full of are lies.

You are no friend of mine,

No you're working me around your finger like a piece of twine.

Well I call it quits, this so called friendship is over Fear.

It has finally reach its end,

There will be no more tears

Shed because of you dear friend.

Go on now, leave me alone

I have my own pain to bare ,

Find a new home

A new place to share.

Go on now, Fear leave me be

Go far away from me.

I never want to see you again,

For you were never truly my friend.

Sincerely,

The one you chose to latch onto for her entire life.

Note

I think we have all had enough with the slimy dark feeling that seems to enter our lives in the time that we least need it. Some of us have so much fear that we cannot even leave our house, we have problems shopping. I can leave my home, yes, but I myself do have issues shopping. It is truly one difficult task. I am frightened by it, when it's a crowded store it's ten times worse. With any kind of fear we have, it just seems fear is growing stronger, gaining control. I think it's about time we don't allow it to have control anymore.

If you are one who suffers from any kind of phobia. Or someone that has such bad anxiety or stress, know that you aren't alone. There are several of us who's names are on that list.

You are not alone, I have to leave stores because my husband gets overwhelmed there and he can't shop alone often.

Thank you Frank for reading and your comment.

Leaderofmany... while shopping I often get overwhelmed. Usually I can calm down if I can find an area that is less crowded but sometimes I do end up having to leave. It's very difficult and I do not enjoy living like this. I am sorry that your husband feels this way as well.

You know Crecent, I am the very same way! I must MAKE myself leave my humble home, and I'd rather chew my own paws off, than shop. But you know, isn't that better than some people's unbridled greed?

BTW, gotta poem for you to look at(Like Legend); you were the inspiration for it... love yaz, lily

Yes, fear is to be feared, especially when he brings along his cohort, insecurity. But I do agree with lilyfly, I'd rather put up with fear than become obsessed with greed. This is a great poem that personifies fear and good on you for sending him packing. Awesome writing, my votes to you.

Lily, I thank you for writing a poem for me and I will check that out shortly after reading the comments I have gotten. And you are correct, it is much better than some people's greed.

Fennelseed, Insecurity makes it even worse when it chooses to join the side of fear. Thank you for your comment, glad you liked it. It hasn't sent him packing away yet but I hope it does soon.

I think we'd all be better off if there was no fear in the English language. Many a night I have worried over something and had fear egging me on.

Gypsy Rose Lee, you are right to say that we all would be better off. Sadly it is not that way. I know that feeling of having fear egg you on at night and I am sorry to hear you having to deal with that. It's hard, I know. Thank you for reading.

Beautifully written, it sounds as though fear was once a lover and you are finally letting go. Two thumbs up!

Thank you Phoebe. In a way I suppose I did grasp a hold of fear, using it as a secure method, an excuse of sorts, to keep myself hidden an away and now I am letting go.

Cresentmoon: You are welcome. Now in all honesty, if I met someone who told me that by eating dirt I could find God, well, I would be tempted, but come on. Eating dirt? I will go by what I read and know and leave the dirt consumption to those who are at ease doing that. Take care my friend and be safe, sane, and sure! ////KENNETH

Eating dirt? Boy that would be awfully strange at that. You keep safe as well.

Cresent...confession: I have in years past, say, the late 70's, met people in my travels who DID subscribe to worse worship rituals than eating dirt, but this is not the place to talk of them for HubPages monitors would boot me off. Besides, its not worth the effort to type them. I will do my best. You also. Now for a coffee break. Later.
