Mysteries of autumn....

Perhaps september will relinquish
its hold to the early
days of
october
The heavy winds predicted today
blow across the sun ripened
hay fields
And the stocks of corn bow down in
waves
of salutation

These days I'm more apt to
appreciate most beauty from a
distance away
way away
There is a promise though
in september
Cool air enough to
start a fire at night
And sit nearby the limbs of
autumns cool shade trees
while dreams of
fantasy linger

Who can tell of autumn though
or the secrets it reveals
The stag in the meadow knows
something and never
questions it
The hawks in migration go
about thier journey
as if they too only
follow the
secrets of the
sun

And the ringneck loons last
call before he too deserts
the pond for the mist
filled skies
Leaving me to recall warm summer
nights and
a haunting
lonely call

The mysteries of autumn
only serve to
haunt me
at times
And surround my moods
like so many maple leaves
drifting silently
among the grey bark trees
and stone walls
of solitude

They too though will leave
one by one
untill not much remains
But the cool blue ice
covered edges
of winter's
pond
Silent but for an occasional howl
of a north wind

So truly beautiful my friend ;my today's hub was also on the seasons of our lives.

Your works never disappoint and here's to so many more to come.

A beautiful poem, ahorseback. Like a fond and sad memory, summer slips away.

Br-r-r-r - - I can feel that cold north wind nearby, though today I had to change from capris and a short-sleeved shirt back into the shorts and tank top and give up holding off turning on the A/C. I usually capture the early morning relative 'cool' high 70s inside before the mid-morning 'warm' mid-to-high 80s turns into afternoon 'hot' up to mid-to-high 90s, both to save on utilities & keep my pre-autumn sense of lovely change alive.

Your description sounds lovely. But, then, yours always do.

This struck a bell with me. I have had at least twenty five Humming birds all summer, they all left except two. my son told me that the old and sick ones are left behind because they can't make the trip south. I put out extra food for them. I didn't know this and it is breaking my heart. I wish he hadn't told me....

Voted up and beautiful. Such wonderful words that conjured up images of the autumn wind sending the colorful leaves dancing through the air. Passing this on.

What a wonderful description to the change of seasons on the farm. Your imagery and colourful words bring forth a bouquet of thoughts as I sit here and read your eloquence. The birds in flight awaken as the seasons force them to change their flight patterns and journey to another place that gives them warmth. Their moods and yours are reflective of the death of one season and the rebirth of another. Enjoy the warmth of the fire and take pause and think of how fortunate we are to be alive. Peace and blessings I send to you this day.

This is one of a handful of your lovely hubs on which I've commented and they didn't show up. On this one and a couple others, I reposted it and still it didn't. Now I see it's here twice. Of course I still love you, but I'd love you more if you'd delete one of the duplicates. ;-)

Autumn and spring are my favorites so this was a treat for me. This is one of the nicest poems about the autumn season I’ve read in some time…it is full of observation, understanding, and introspection. Well done!
