A Past Love Remembered

All alone drifting through this world

he often thought about his lost love

so young and so unknowing

love was such a fantasy

but then all the bridges burned

no turning back

there was something so wrong

love’s embers had gone cold

no matter how he tried

she had lost love’s sweet glow

for days and nights

he drifted

wondering till the morning light

what were the words

that he had said

to make her love him

the words that sent her away

so often he wondered

just how far away she had drifted

he wanted to know

if she thought of him

friends they had had

just turned a deaf ear

they all believed perhaps

they were better off

one without the other

but he still held her in his heart

and she came to him in dreams

that had him walking on clouds

hoping somehow

to find her and tell her

that there was still love in his heart

it was upon a day

when the first spring winds blew

that in a crowd of many

he recognized the face

that came into his dreams

it was then that he knew

for him there could be no other love

and he called out

the name that haunted him still

she turned and for a breathless moment

it seemed she knew him

no longer

then like the sun after the rain

her smile was so bright

and she went to him

looked deep into his eyes

and her words were like magic

as she said

there could be no other love

no one but him

and then they no longer knew

how they had drifted apart

they should have known right from the start

that their love was

as endless as the eternal sky

Understanding and misunderstanding, are never lasting,

cause, love is everlasting.

Enjoyed this nice lovely, poetic journey of lovers. Kudos. You have explained the day to day hurt burn that young lovers go through.

Rasma, this brings to mind my "one that got away". He and I are still friends and often wonder what would have happened if we'd stayed together. Now he lives in Maine, and I'm in Florida. We love each other - there's no doubt about it, but would it work if we weren't on opposite ends of the coast?

Interesting story Shauna. Perhaps you two should get together and see if sparks fly. My high school love found me on FB. We are now friends on the net. I was glad to find out he has a great life and wonderful daughters and he was glad to know that I am alright as well. I know we would never have been a forever kind of couple. Only interesting thing is that he and my hubby, who is my soul mate were both born in July and are both Cancer. With one it worked out, with the other not.
