A Pastor's Wife by Debbie Lacy

She’s a wonderful proud woman that’s supportive and sweet,

Standing behind her faithful Pastor as his helpmeet.

She is with him every moment to help make his work progress

And there is no limit of her contribution to help make it all a success.

As she works behind the scenes unseen or heard

Yet she can always be counted on just to give helping word.

Unconditionally she shares him with others members for his work is never done,

But she realizes he’s God’s servant and his teachings must go on.

She’s there to encourage him when he is down and blue,

Even though he’s a man of God, he’s also human too!

As she stands behind her husband like a shadow that’s always there,

She’s like the air we breathe always needed which we all aren’t aware.

So to all the members of this church what I am trying hard to tell,

When God chose this Preacher’s wife, it was for the rest of us as well.

So to show that you appreciate her at the doors of this church shake her hand,

Give her a hug around her shoulders because behind her there is a great man.

This was a great poem. So many times the woman who stands behind the man at the pulpit isn't recognized for her selfless acts of giving. My dad is a preacher, has been since he was 16. My mom has selflessly given of herself always.

We moved quiet a bit during my childhood. Always because the call of God for her husband took him somewhere else and she would pack us up and move us uncomplaining. I have always been amazed at her quiet strength and support.

Very lovely. Thank you.

I also like the picture. People do not smile anymore in pictures. You two seem to have too much joy to hold it in. :)

Well thanks for your comment wmhoward4, I wrote this poem about several pastor's wives I know and just wanted to acknowledge the many deeds that they do in the church behind the scenes that many people don't see or realize just how valuable they are, not only as a helpmeet but as a First Lady of the church. Again, many thanks and many blessings to you and yours. :)
