Poems and Poetry About Making The World a Better Place - We are All Connected

We are all connected

To every living thing,

From the tiniest amoeba

To the wild bird that sings,

From the rivers and the oceans

To smallest babbling brook

To the treetops high above us

To the earth trampled underfoot,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

One unto another,

Every single one of us

A sister or a brother,

From the Aborigines

Living in ancient tribal lands

To every single immigrant

To land on foreign sands,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To the moon and earth and sky,

To the planets and the stars

To majestic mountains high,

From the flowers in the field

To the wind whispering in the leaves

To every hill and rock and plant

To every thing that breathes,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To our friend and to our foe,

From the most aged one amongst us

To each new baby as it grows,

From the farmer or the merchant

To every living being

From the lowliest of peasants

To the richest earthly kings,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To the clouds and wind and rain,

To the sunlight as it dances

On meadow, hills and plain,

To the tiny crystal of a snowflake

To the swirling cloud of dust

From the bonds called love and family

To anger, joy, pain and lust,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To creatures great and small,

From the tiny aye-aye

To the giraffe standing graceful and so tall,

From the gentle little lamb

To ferocious roaring beast

To all that fly or swim or walk,

From north, south, west or east,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To what we choose to do or not,

From lessons collectively learned

To those yet to be taught,

From pride and angst and prejudice

To greed and war and hate

From moral and immoral

To destiny and fate,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

From first down to the last,

To wisdom and to ignorance

To guidance as is passed,

From each new generation

To the one that came before

To the history of that which was

To that remembered or ignored,

We are all connected.

We are all connected

To the universe its true,

To the One who made us all

To the lies and to the truth,

To the wrong and to the right

To the difference that we make

To the path which lies ahead

To the road we choose to take,

We are all connected.

About This Poem

I recently watched a documentary that was entitled, "I Am." It offered a stunning look at our place in the universe, and supported my long standing theory that we are all connected not only to each other, but to everything that surrounds us. Singularly, we cannot change the world, and we certainly cannot change the world in one day, or even one year; but wouldn't it be amazing if we all began , just a little at a time, to remember when making decisions and choices, to take into consideration that we may be impacting not only ourselves, but everyone and everything around us?

I hate to turn an insightful, lovely poem into something political - but you really need to send this to both parties (and their supporters) - and the sooner the better!

@Seeker7 - I really do believe that if we would all pause for just moment now and then and think about how our actions, or lack of action as the case may be, may affect those around us, we'd have a better shot at making the world a better one to live in. Thank you so much for the generosity of your time, your comments, and the votes, they are all welcomed and deeply appreciated!

@b.Malin - Always a pleasure to see your comments appear! I have to say that I couldn't agree with you more, it would be a much better world to live in if we all could remember how we effect the world and the people around us. Very beautifully written and as I sometimes even watch and learn more about birds and animals I know we are connected to them too. I wish I could believe this world could work it out but I don't think it will be until the next, still we are right to be working on it!

@Jackie Lynnley - Maybe we will get, and maybe we won't but the important thing is that we work at it. Have to try to keep the faith....Who knows, maybe it will catch on and be like that old Wella Shampoo commercial..."I told two friends, and they told two friends....Gotta try to have faith. Thank you for the gift of your time and your comments, they are as always, both welcomed and deeply appreciated.

bravo! K burns!!!. I AGREE WITH YOU 300 % .... a journey of a thousand miles begin with one single step.!!!! THUMBS UP ON THIS ONE.You go girl!!!!i'm with ya! How is your dad doing? Doing great , I hope.

@Globetrekkermel- Thank you so very much for the gift of your time, your comments, and the vote, they are all very much welcomed and deeply appreciated. It is just my humble opinion, but I do absolutely believe that we are all connected and that a little consideration of that by each of us, would go a long way in making this world a better place. I wish I could say that my dad was doing well, and I guess in a sense he is; we lost my dad a year ago this past August, and I know that wherever he is, he is in a better place without the pain and illness that so plagued him in his last years, and that he has been reunited with my mom.... It is those of us whom he left behind that now live in a world that is a little less bright. Thanks again!

I am sorry tom hear your Dad's passing K Burns.I am preparing myself for that too.I am practically begging THE MAN ABOVE for a little bit more time with my Mom. God help me,really

@Globetrekkermel - Thank you for your condolences, they are very sweet. I am so sorry to hear that your mom is not doing well, and my heart hurts for you, as I know all to well just how difficult it really is to watch helplessly as a parent slips slowly out of your grasp. I caution you my friend, not to believe too much that you can prepare for the loss, for I also thought that I was doing a fair job of preparing myself for the inevitable, but when the day came, I found that all my preparation had been for naught. I am no longer sure that one can prepare themselves for the loss of a beloved parent. Enjoy whatever moments you can with your mom, each day, no matter how difficult is truly a gift to be cherished, and one which should be celebrated. Thank you again,

You will be in my prayers.
