A Poem - Charisma

What you see is not always what you will get.

Fools gold shines like the real thing and fools many.

Charisma

What is that magic?

It shines somehow, distinctive.

What bred that there? When?

Sometimes a bright smile.

Sometimes a sure confidence.

Sometimes all and plus.

Some have "it" in spades.

All seem to want to be near.

It never does fade.

It fools the foolish.

It send nations off to war.

It made some actors.

Charisma, a gift.

Used wisely it merits praise;

Falsely, it misleads..

Lack "it"? Wish for "it".

Have "it", it confers power.

Use it wisely, well.

Second thoughts on charisma....

This is a second attempt at examining charisma and cautioning about its drawing power.

The world's history is littered with characters who have had it and led whole nations astray with disastrous consequences.

By contrast, effective leaders have often had it while using it for the common good in situations where it maximized their efforts, leaving them cherished in the histories of their nations.

Impostors have had charisma that allowed them to pilot planes, dupe the wealthy, and perform surgeries, all the time lacking the credentials to do so, if anyone had taken the time to check.

Is it a blessing from on high, or a curse from man's adversary?

It could be, almost assuredly is, a topic of books, movies, and psychological studies.

You can name names of the famous and the infamous who have or have had that certain "it" which is so hard to define that the 1948 Fifth Edition of Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (1948)didn't even contain the word and its definition. That following World War II whose Mussolini, Hitler, and Tojo had mesmerized millions and slaughtered even more.

When you see charisma in a person, look twice and weigh how it is being used. Is it a mask of deceit, or real brilliance shining through.

Not all attractiveness is real beauty.

This is a brutal truth. Sometimes I have a meeting to attend and I just spend ten minutes meditating and concentrating on my charisma before hand. I study the people and learn how to be completely simpatico with them.

I like to think it removes personal barriers, but I in fact know it is a deflection from real issues. Well I thank you for a great article.

There is something supernatural about charisma. How people use it depends on the morality or immorality of their humanness. You have given me some thoughts to consider. Thank you.

Yes, I've known supposedly charismatic people who have used it badly. However, I tend to think that real charisma is indeed good, and maybe we let ourselves be deceived by what we want to hear or want to believe when someone is not truly charismatic. Ann

You have done it. What a great way to describe what Charisma actually is and how it can totally blind us. Well done...Awesome

Interesting. Charisma can be like charm, or rather like a handsome coat one dons to wear that has nothing to do with who they truly are. It has nothing to do with character. Voted up and interesting.

Your are so right, and history surely repeats itself. Look at what Ted Bundy did with charisma...
