It takes only a moment to notice a child...

Although he seemed calm, his pain surpassed his age

Someone in the world,
Just saw a child’s face,
although he seemed calm,
His pain well surpassed his age.

When someone gets home.
They think of him once again,
they wonder if he is okay,
as the day comes to an end.

Somewhere in the world,
a child saw a face,
of someone who could have helped him,
but he knows he will be forgotten without a name.

Life hasn't been easy;
the world hasn't been kind,
His time is spent,
Just trying to survive.

He has a mother,
He does not know,

But he wishes she was here to save him from this world.

His daddy wakes up every morning-
Never in a fair mood.
It doesn't matter what he has or hasn't done.
It only matters what he did or didn't do.

He wishes he could run away,
He wishes he could hide,
but even at his young age-
His heart of gold can't leave his sister behind.

He shouldn't understand,
all the harshness of a cruel world
but he does, and he sees, the lack of beauty on this earth.

Someone just saw a tear roll down a child’s face
they saw his pain,

they saw his hurt but they didn't take time to learn his name.

They know they won't know him-

and his story won't be told,
unfortunately they are right,

because this child won't have a chance to grow old.

If someone would have stopped,
and asked the little boys name.
Perhaps the little boy and his sister
would finally feel safe.

But as strangers walk by,
and take for granted the quality of their time.
They could have taken a moment
to pay more attention to a child’s life.

His eyes don't have to fill up with tears
He doesn't have to be aged beyond his years,
if a stranger could take the time,
to pay attention and see the pain he cannot hide.

Someone saw a child’s face,
they watched him heal and his miseries melt away.
He no longer cries every night,
because someone stopped and gave up a minute of their time.

His sister is at peace by his side,

Tucked into bed to sleep safe through the night.

Someone rescued them from their fears,

Someone took a moment to heal the years.

I voted right across the above. Mankind has a couple of stains on his past , present and future, and the neglect and abuse of a child IS the worst one. And I think its ironic that those like yourself that care so much for a child aren't more the messege to all people. Why dont they get it!? .......Nice work...:-}

Thank you for writing this today H.C Porter, in Canada it is a criminal offense not to report child abuse or endangerment.

That was beautiful, I was one of those children thank you so very much for sharing. Believe me you hit it right on the money, growing up that way is certainly hard and it makes children grow up to be hard as well. Childeren who survive long enough to be able to get away will be survivers the rest of their lives, and stick with you until the day you die.

An extremely wonderful poem. I feel for those unfortunate children living with bad parents.

ahorseback- thank you so much. I am not sure why people dont care... I sometimes think that I care too much for other people and their well being. I am one of those that will lose sleep for a strangers sufferings. Wish I could save everyone- but I can not, and this is my way of contributing to awareness. Thanks for the comment :)

snakeslane, thanks for the read and the comment. That is a great law to have in Canada... Even more reason to want to live there.

YoungWife, Thank you for the comment, and I am so very sorry that you have suffered and are a survivor. I too am a survivor, but not because of neglect by my family- I am lucky to have the love and support of my mother and father- but I have seen this neglect in children and their age does not reflect their years... I hope that all children have the chance to be kids- I know this is not what happens, but I hope that more than not, children are saved because someone noticed that they needed to be noticed.

writer20, Thanks for the comment. I think when children are neglected it is because their parents were either neglected and never shown how a family structure should be provided, or because their parents are lost and attempting or struggling to find themselves and have not the ability to care for a child....and then of course their are some very bad/horrible people who have no right to even think about raising a child-yet do (in the most horrible situations, destroying their children each and everyday).

Cresentmoon2007,

and you are a survivor...coming through on top and beautifully. Child abuse and neglect of any sorts, turns my stomach... I scold my children, and when I see their eyes fill up with tears, my heart stops and I feel my chest clench up tight from the hurt that I cam causing merely yelling at them to correct behavior that is harmful... How could any parent not see the pain in their child's eyes as they ignore their wants and needs, is beyond me. Thanks you for your continued support and for the comment :)

vandanajain,

Thank you-and-thank you... for the support, for reading and for the feedback. I hope that this can serve as a eye opener for just a handful that will pay a little more attention today than they did yesterday and perhaps save a child and give them another chance at living tomorrow.

Just beautiful!!!! It chocked me up, so I can't write much now... But thought it was wonderful for you as an adult to 'see' these children.
