A Poet's Days

Some poets live long
to polish and cherish their craft.
Other barely begin
and the curtain of life closes.

But it remains a mystery.
As the scripture says
time and chance
happen to all men.

To work and grow
in ones gift is a blessing.
To touch the face
of the source
and pull from the threads
of inspiration
of those great poets
who have gone before.

Some laboring in the fields
war, some doctors, some farmers.
Who’ve answered the
call of the gift
that rest in the heart
of the seasoned poet.

And so we write.
