A Soldier of Fear

She knew how to master

difficult circumstances,

her life was made up of

only slim chances,

and behind all the lost years,

the false tears,

she never suffered from

unreasonable fears,

and she never cried,

her heart raced,

every fear she faced,

and faced down were justified,

she was abused as a child,

her shadow was always huddled

and riddled with fright,

as she prayed for the light,

and she just had to be strong,

pretending nothing was wrong,

even fighting back the cries,

seeing fear in her mother’s eyes,

made the strength increase inside,

and her fears would hide,

she was a child helpless and used,

she was the one being abused,

but her mother felt the same terror,

until that one night,

she put up a valiant fight,

shot her step father

in the back of the head,

face down on the queen size bed,

no more lies,

his death helped quiet the cries,

and when the police got there,

she was in a fetal position whispering

a soldier of fear has no more tears...

You have very eloquently given voice to a tragedy that occurs far too often to the most innocent of victims: children. To me, there is nothing more reprehensible than one who would ever do anything to harm a child, much less one they themselves should protect. I like the ending you gave this one: justice served, but unfortunately, the damage was too great for the innocent one. Great poem; you continue to outdo yourself time and again, Frank!

Hi Frank,

He had it coming to him. I would have liked to see him have a slow painful death as it angers me how anyone could abuse a child.

Voted up and awesome.
