A Summer's Menace
Reflections on a small topic
A COSTLY DIET
Mosquito, I would question you,
devil's advocate of nature, God's L'enfant terrible, ubiquitous thorn in everyone's flesh
Poised with syringe tinier, yet more skillfully wielded than that of any lab tech or attending nurse, preceded by that infernal hummed soliloquy more universally known than Hamlet's musing or Kate Smith's "God bless . . . " anthem sound
At this, your moment of attack, I pause with hand held high, and ask, envisioning the crimson scene to come,
"Was your (whack!) bill of fare worth the price?"
