A Witty Little Ditty

Just a country boy....

No Georgia Tech, just a ramblin' wreck.

Even the pigs are clean here, mostly.

I'd like to write a little ditty,

If only I were clever, witty.

But that's for folks from the great, big city;

Not for country boys like me.

` o ` o ` o ``` o ` o `o`

Out here we love to sit and stare,

Breathe in the ever fresh night air,

Think the city just can't compare;

Not for country boys like me.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~~~ ~ o ~ o ~ o ~

Don't guess they ever want to fish;

See shooting stars and make a wish;

But need to eat some fancy dish;

Not for a country boy like me.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~~~ ~ o ~ o ~ o ~

Out here where we most love the missus;

Have some snakes, the ones that hisses;

Fancy cars are not our wishes;

Not for a country boy like me.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~~~ ~ o ~ o ~ o ~

We like things that's plain and simple;

Country gals that have a dimple;

No makeup just to hide a pimple;

Not for a country boy like me.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~~~ ~ o ~ o ~ o ~

Church? We go there ev'ry Sunday;

Back to work each an' ev'ry Monday.

Don't just seek some special Fun Day;

Not for a country boy like me.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~~~ ~ o ~ o ~ o ~

P'raps I don't need to write no ditty;

Seems to me I'm sittin' pretty;

Folks can have their smoggy city;

Not for a country boy like me!

Hi Perspycacious.

I can think of a few hubbers that would be pleased to have you "sittin pretty" next to them on our wall of famed poets.

Voted up, and if it's ok with you I will share it with my friends in cyber space.

whonunuwho : We live in a small town (c. 10,000) which has access to every modern convenience while still being able to post its motto of "A Little Bit of Country" here in Lindon, Utah. The Rockies spread their panorama outside our large living room window, and Utah Lake is at our back, with fertile soil beneath our feet. Who would dare ask for anything more, when we have family we can visit in California, Maine, and Iowa, France, Canada, Laos, etc. ?

Janhorner: Thanks for your "absentee ballot" which I will count with the others, when they arrive. ;-o) Too bad that "hard" as they may be, they always seem to get such low scores here on HP where the powers that be must have no real poetry in their souls!

eHealer: Doing these in reverse order just must mean I saved the best for last...though I hope yours is not the last one I can reply to. Doing "a ditty" every now and then can be good fun. Give it a try and see!

jhamann: Thanks for the compliment. I guess that, by rights, to be a good song "ditty" the lines would have to have an identical number of syllables, except perhaps for the recurring refrain; but I settled for what it is: just a little ditty intended to tell some truths through humor.

Very well said! Catchy, too. I've always loved the country and small towns alot more than the big city!

Oh I love that so much. I was raised on a farm and I remember the days sitting on the porch after all the work was done and listening to the croaking frogs and the crickets. Thanks for taking me back to those days.

Curiad Thanks a bunch.

mours sshields : You are not alone.

cherylone: W can each wish we had a time machine.

aviannovice: City folks have imaginations too, but to know is partly to experience.

Love it! The country and things rural are the best and for those of us who must live in the city it's great to be reminded of what life is really all about.

BlossomSB: City life has its appreciative testimonials, too, but I appreciate that you could be reminded of some of the pluses 'a country feller" might find transcending the bright lights. Check out cherylone's comment above on listening to the frogs and crickets (loons are a delight, too!) Plus city lights mask the myriad of stars you can see on a clear night out in the countryside. ;-o)

Gypsy Rose Lee and picklesandrufus: How nice it is and how privileged we are that we can write what we feel, too!
