A poem, The vine covered cottage

The aroma of apple pies

Looking at a beautiful vine covered cottage sitting atop a tulip lined hill

Overlooking a Flowering meadow

So serene so still

My mind wanders back to childhood , seems so very long ago

A joyful time

That's difficult for me to let go

A time when happiness prevailed as the children frolicked about and played

When a Mother and a Father were together

Faithfully gathering the children around as they knelt and prayed

I can still remember the curtains that hung so fresh and bright

The fireplace that warmed us

Each and every night

The smell of food cooking on the old pot belly wood stove

The aroma of apple pies

Picked from our treasured grove

Then something happened we didn't quite understand

A big truck came to move our Mother away

From our peaceful meadowland

Now that i'm grown, when i see a cottage high upon a hill

My thoughts return to childhood memories

I guess they always will.

Hate that hard times follow good times. But they do, and as a kid you can only do what you can to survive. Lovely Ruby...

Hello Always. You have penned such a nostalgic piece from times that are refered to as 'simpler'. Yet the troubles were just as frequent than as now. You put this together very well. Listening to Elvis right now. Thanks.

Ruby - This was so sweet and beautiful and serene,

And it was written only the way that you can.

So sorry that the Mother in the story you wrote,

Ran off with that good looking truck-driving man.

Oh, Ruby, you have touched my heart with this one. How sad to grow up to know your biological mother only through your siblings. But, of course, spectators don't have the strength and courage given to those who have to cope in less fortunate circumstances. And most amazing: God always provides substitutes for our missing beloveds.

Yet, the longing and yearning for the real always linger in us.

Excellent poem, my dear Twin :)

Hugs from me to you :)

Hello b. Boy, you nailed it. I started to write about a cottage where the family lived, then it turned into a mother's abandonment, which is true, but i had no intention of going there when i started to write. I guess some things remain in the psyche..Thank you so much..Cheers
