A poem for B.....we met over coffee

I sat and listened to her
for hours
only speaking once or
twice when asked

I watched the way she tucked
her hair behind
her ear with only the delicacy of
feminine fingers

the way her lips moved
when she smiled
and her pride when
she said "my kids"

the way her eye's watered when
I said something
about the anger
of mistrust

The purest pleasure for me
though was that
she trusted me
to listen

And I heard it all
every word
every dream
each pain and

And when it was all over
far too soon
and with the first hint of her

I knew that somehow I had taken
away a little of her pain
and added it to

But that's what we do
us rainy day lovers
until we meet
once again
for coffee

Sounds like an exceptional way to connect. A good listener is worth it's weight in gold. Another good read!

You capture very well the feeling we have when we take a little piece of a person with us who makes a strong impression on our lives. Voted beautiful!

To be able to listen without interjecting with one's own experiences is a great gift! Love your poem.
