How to Be a Mother, Father, Child.

Source

Thank You Mom and Dad

When very young I was a good child, gentle and mild. As I grew that began to change some. By the time I was a teenager I was totally wild, though I must admit, exceptionally skilled at not getting caught in my typically dangerous deeds. My parents were by no means perfect, each dealing with their own demons that I didn’t dream existed. Though struggling daily within themselves, they still managed to raise me, to love me, to teach me that which I did not make easy to teach. I can never thank them enough. I know now how truly blessed I was.

Mama

Mama, I never told you growing up

...how special you are.
Angry and full of rage I was

... after Daddy was killed.
Moreover, so many times

...I took it out on you
and for that I will eternally be ashamed.

Mama, you are far from perfect
and God knows we used to fight.
Mama, I was wrong and I’m so sorry.
Always, always know you were right.

Mama, I know now you were battling

...you own demons
and yet, you never once

...failed to put me first.
Mama, you didn’t make life easy

...so many times brutal.
And now, I see clearly

... it was more so for you than me.

Mama, I know now you did this

...to get through my thick skull.
At no small cost to yourself

...you never gave in.
Mama, I hope to be as strong

...someday
and put my issues on a shelf for the good of another

...as you did for me.

Reba - "A Little Want To"

Mom and Dad

Mother, may I please?
Over my dead body!
Mama, you just don’t want me to have any fun!

And you can think what you want, but your still not going.
Now, do as your told and stop whining before I give you something to whine about.
Don’t you know I’m doing this for your own good?

Daddy, may I please? Over my dead body! I should tan your hide for thinking it!
Always wanting to grow up too fast. Stop trying to rush. Enjoy being a kid.
Don't you know I'm doing this for your own good?

DAD

Daddy, I miss you so much.
And I will never, ever, forget how much your love meant to me, still means to me.
Daily, I thank God for the time I had with you and for the loving mother I still have.

Dolly and Holly - "Daddy's Hands"

Father

For
all
the
home grown wisdom
ever
related, I can't say thank you enough.

For
all
the
harsh sacrifices,
everyday made with a smile.
Really, thanks, though your not here.

For
all
the
hard discipline when I needed but didn’t want it, I thank you for you taught me
ever so diligently, ever so patiently,
respect and responsibility, courage and compassion, to stand for what is right.

For
all
the
homeless, parentless, love starved kids, I wish you had parents as good as mine.
Everyone one of you deserves love, respect, hugs, teaching, and parenting.
Really, you deserve them. Look to the Father above

...for he will never desert you.

Source

Mother

Mothers
often make mistakes.
They are people too with
hearts as big as Texas which
ever on beat just for you,
rascal that you are.

Mothers
overall are the fiercest creatures made.
They will die for their children and
have done so since the dawn of time.
Every second you have with her is a gift to which none compares.
Run to her now and be sure she knows how much you really care.

Parents

Parents
are
really just human, all of you lost little ones. Don’t you see?
Everyday they slave to see that you are safe. Every
night they worry for you and they will every night of your life.
Tell them you love them for you won’t have them forever.
Say what is in your heart while you can or you may never forgive yourself

...when they are gone.

Parents today, too often led astray by those who really don’t know,
aren’t you aware it’s your job to raise the ones God gave you?
Responsibility, respect, independence and love are taught through actions,
everyday in every way and everything you say,
not by screaming do as I say not as I do. They will imitate what you do.
Teach what you wish you were taught and remember how hard it was
to suffer at the hands of your own parents. Be what you and they deserve.

Parents
everywhere,
rejoice in the gift of your children.
Enjoy them not spoil them. They need grit to survive, to make it in the times ahead.
Now is the time, from the day they are born. You never know how long you have.
Today is never too late. Do what they need you to. Stand for what is right, not easy.
Stand up to them if you have to. Love them always. They are the greatest part of

...you.

Dear Teenager

Dear Teen,

Every day is an opportunity.

All the choices you make either open doors to greatness or slam them shut forever.

Reality is not something you can or should be sheltered from anymore.

Truly, it can eat you up and spit you out as it has done many an adult before you.

Everyone has to make hard choices. What’s popular is seldom the good choice.

Everyone is doing it is not true, it just seems that way. Everyone is really just trying

...to make it.

Now is the time to build yourself, to decide who you are.

...Do you want to be a carbon copy?

Billie Holiday - "God Bless the Child"

Dear Children

Dearest child, you are
each
and every one.
rare and unique. You are the only one.

Child, there is no one else like you.
Haven’t you heard this before?
In God’s image you were made.
Love he put in you from the start.
Dearest child,
remember this
every
night of your life.

Dearest child,
even if you are lost,
and feel no one cares,
really, you are wrong.
Child, the Father of us all
has a plan for you in this life.

In good times and bad and especially in strife,
let him be your guide. He will always lead you right.
Dear to him you are, more so than you will ever know. But
remember, you have to ask for him to guide you. He won’t force you.
Enter his family willingly and with a true though darkened heart for
now is all you have. It’s never too late to start.

Dearest child,
everyone is in pain.
All of us suffer in our lives.
Really, there is none that does not.

Children feel it more.
He will save you, though suffer still you shall.
In each life gain comes through pain. It’s the nature of the human condition.
Let his love ease your pain as only he can do. You need him more than you know.
Dear child, in his love you can find peace.
Reason is not always the answer. Faith is something greater. It is
empowering. It allows you to overcome, to love, and to forever live.
Now is the time my child. Discover for yourself what only he can give.

Sky9106 ~ Thank you :). Acrostic is not my typical style and it's hell lining up right thanks to the advertising stuffs but I'm glad I did this. My mother is getting older, as are we all. I did this for her. She has not read it as she refuses to have anything to do with the internet but I'm going to send this and a few others to her. It will never make up for all the worry and pain I caused her. As a teen I would never share my thoughts with her. It's the least I can do now.

God bless you and happy New Year!

SubRon7 ~ Thank you so much. I have watched the video a few times now and it breaks my heart every single time. I can only imagine the terror that woman faced and yet she still had the presence of mind to save her child by sacrificing herself. Her actions, to me, are a model of what humanity is capable of in the face of adversity and overwhelming odds.

Deborah ~ Thank you for your time and comment. You are always, unfailingly kind and I for one appreciate it. I would not change many of the crazy things I did when younger for I learned so much they never teach in school, but I would change the pain I caused my parents, especially my mother for she endured so much more than Daddy. While I miss him to this day, I think in some ways his passing was a blessing. It would have driven him mad to see the world as it is today.

Happy New Year and I hope it brings you nothing but blessings and God's love.

I had to say this to you , let the dead go bury the dead , can you imagine living the remainder of your life not realizing the job they did . I am proud to hear you speak in this manner about your mother.

It takes a lot to be humble and understanding. My Mom is now 91 and, just to be able to know you are doing what's correct !

Bless and healthy New Year to you and yours also.

My mother is a dear woman of such strength. I hope to have her around for many more years.

Bless you and thank you so much for your words of encouragement. They truly are appreciated and well received.

Nell ~ Thank you. It was but it was a long time ago. I still miss him but I'm glad he doesn't have to see the world going to hell in a hand basket. In so many ways he is with me just one of which is how I think. I know now more than ever his input shaped it when I was too young to even be able to articulate such a thought. God bless and have the best New Year ever!

poetvix,

this whole page is just beautiful. your words and messages are so true, kind and shoot straight at the mind and heart. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am so sorry for your loss. You show your spirit, strength and resilience through each poem. I can tell you wrote this from your heart only to keep others from having to take the hard road that you've had to take to learn such valuable lessons. Your voice is loud and clear with so much wisdom and courage. Vix, I wish you love and joy this holiday season and know that you would make me abundantly proud if you were my daughter and I had read this!

lots o' hugs, Erin

Erin ~ I can't thank you enough for you comment. I'm not all that but I am so happy to see it understood I really would like for someone to learn from my mistakes. Your heart is as big as the world, Erin and I've seen it shine through in so many of your Hubs.

I hope my mother is proud, now, but so much more so I hope she knows how proud I am of her. Her life has been so hard and I didn't help when younger. I wish more children had parents not only willing to sacrifice for them but willing to do the hard thing and be the heavy when needed.

I wish you all God's love and blessing in the New Year and all the years to come, for you and yours. Right back at you with the hugs you dear, dear soul.

I don't do Facebook much but will check it out after I return from the vet tomorrow. Ever has to go in. If she is her normal self, she will growl at the vet and turn her nose up at their treats. She is most full of herself and takes food only from us. She has been acting puny all day.

You've created something very special with these acrostic poems. Poetvix, do you realize how many you've really spoken for here? There's no love like a parents' love for their children and sometimes it takes the wisdom of years for a child to fully appreciate that love. There's a 15 year old who thinks she will defy her fathers wishes-her mom died at 37 of an accidental overdose- and run off with a boy when she turns 16. When she gets her computer back on or visits next time I will show her this. Thank you poetvix.

Alastar ~ The idea of a 15 year old girl running off with any guy is a truly sobering thought. I really hope this helps but don't hold your breath. I remember being a 15 year old girl and I thought I knew better than anyone, that I could handle anything. The ignorance and arrogance of youth knows no bounds.

Hi poetvix. What an awesome Hub! Wow! The concept itself is creative to the nth power. Your wisdom about the dynamic of parent/child screams experience realized. Too many people get 'stuck' and never get to this point. My hope is that your writing will help some release the negativities they've held too long. I am one of four children and my wife and I have six. Parenting is the most difficult task a human takes on. Your writing here makes me want to fly home and hug my Mom. Thank you for your excellent insights and beautiful writing style. I can always come to your Hubs for great stuff.

Michael ~ Thank you so much for your kindness and for taking the time to read. With six children, I'm sure time is not something you have in abundance. I have to admit, I don't know how you do it. Just the logistics of feeding so many must a few full time jobs in and of itself. God has blessed you six times over and I hope he blesses and keeps each and everyone in the year to come. Thanks again, Michael and happy hubbing in 2012 too.

Hello, poetvix,

I do believe that you are one of the hippest writers on HubPages (a little big-city lingo ;-)).

My papa died suddenly when I was only eight years old and my mama went on to raise my sister and me all alone until she married my step-father who was a terrific and very loving man.

So, I closely identify with what you wrote here because my parents gave me so much and made numerous sacrifices for my sister and me. They really did get me started out on the right foot in life, and if it had not been for that, I would not have been able to withstand all of the rough patches that I have hit.

poetvix profile image

poetvix 4 years ago from Gone from Texas but still in the south. Surrounded by God's country. Author

Feenix ~ Thank you! It's really nice to hear that as I'm constantly told by students that my thinking is from the dark ages :).

I'm sorry for your loss. I have to believe the hardest things in our lives happen for a reason and that there is a plan to it all that works out for the side of God in the end though knowing such does ease the pain we all go through at some points in our lives.

God bless you and thank you not only for your kind words but for your Hubs of truth and common sense, something sorely lacking in our modern world.
