Adrift and Bereft
Adrift and Bereft

Adrift in swallowed toxic dreams,
culture born and hate redeemed,
the conflicts, pain of thoughtless minds,
ravaged peace and hope remind.
Within the walls of self depraved,
isolate and values made,
to keep a world of death within,
life outside has hardly been.
Fear of truth in minds escape,
lost in dreams of fancy take,
illusion world in prophet’s eyes,
reality of self despise.
Dogs of grief and hunger howl,
at edge of mind and ignorance vow,
to keep within that crusted shell,
to suck the air of rancid smell.
Choice made attuned to lies,
imbibe the marrow of lives survived,
to grasp what hope can light a path,
strewn with bodies and aftermath.
Darkest wills intent on hurt,
at every point in earthly mirth,
filled with trickery and diversions make,
simple souls of dire mistakes.
Twisted minds and tormented beings,
thirst for meat and power it seems,
to keep the wheels of life in tow,
and oppress the weak and accepting souls.
Bereft of truth as aimless beings,
who wander earth as gormless deemed,
to live the shadow of life’s one gift,
the capacity to know, decide and lift.
For dreams are our reflections made,
to grasp the truth within the maze,
and follow hearts to higher thoughts,
not sink below the dark retorts.
It is ours alone that choice to make,
to see beyond and opportunity take,
for life is filled with lust and lies,
adrift are we in compromise.
