All About Kitty the Dreamer
Hi, I'm Kitty.
Hi. My name is Kitty, but online most people know me as Kitty the Dreamer. I am a mother, a wife, a nurse, and last but not least I am a writer. Writing is my passion and has been since I was a little girl. I started writing because of my love for reading. My childhood was a rather tumultuous one, and the way I escaped was through engaging in a good book. I remember specifically reading the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Babysitters' Club, Goosebumps, and more. I was able to exit this world and go to another one simply by picking up a book.
My undying love for reading spilled over into a passion for writing by the age of eight. I particularly loved writing short stories, and I recall winning awards for some of those short stories in elementary school. One story was about being sent away to a boarding school where we were made to wear clown costumes and eat cold oatmeal for every meal. Apparently my teacher thought it was entertaining.
I continued to write into my teenage years and still have a couple composition books filled with angsty teenage poems and love songs. None of which would make a lot of sense now but made complete sense to me as an angry, heart-broken hormonal adolescent. Once I made it through my teen years, I struck out on my own as an adult. I left my home in Maryland and moved south to Florida, taking my love for the written word with me.
About four years ago I saw an ad on Facebook for Hubpages...they were calling for writers who wanted to write online and make money at the same time. It sounded too good to be true, so I signed up and began writing hubs right away. It took me a lot of dedication, time, and effort to build up to where I am now on Hubpages, but it was worth it. I've learned so much along the way about writing and about what people enjoy reading in general. I would recommend Hubpages as a platform for serious and passionate writers.
Things that Inspire My Writing
So I wanted to explain a little about the topics that inspire my writing. You will notice that I write a large potion of my articles on the topic of the paranormal. Why is this? As a young girl, I had many experiences with what people might call the supernatural, things that cannot be explained by science. These experiences continued into my adulthood and sometimes still occur today. Because of these experiences, I have found a fascination with anything that goes bump in the night but to be fully honest my favorite thing to write about is fairies! I have no real explanation for my obsession with the wee folk, other than I am just drawn to the topic. I have been researching and studying folklore on fairies for over ten years now and have had a few experiences with the fay myself!
Ancient history has always inspired and delighted me. As a child, I would imagine myself living in ancient Egypt or Ireland during the Celtic age. Today I love researching alternate theories of the birth of man, and I have a love for reading about lost civilizations like Atlantis and Lemuria. I believe there is a lot more to man's evolution than what science and society would lead us to believe. You might also see me write about past decades and centuries, especially Victorian times and mid-twentieth-century.
My readers also find that I write about new age topics, as well as metaphysics. This is because my open mind is always seeking answers to life's big questions. I am a lover of crystals and stones, as well as herbs and teas. I believe that we are all connected to one another, and that we are a part of the Universe just as the Universe is a part of us.
In addition to my beliefs influencing my work, I also have many favorites:
Favorite authors and writers: Anne Rice, Neil Gaiman, Rainbow Rowell, Sarah Anne Lawless, CS Lewis
Favorite Hubbers: Nell Rose, Dolores Monet, Phyllis Doyle, Carolyn Emerick
Favorite Books: Fried Green Tomatoes, The Mayfair Witch Trilogy, The Graveyard Book, Eleanor and Park
Favorite Movies and TV shows: Donnie Darko, Waking Life, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Avatar, Titanic, Harry Potter. Breaking Bad, Friends, Family Feud, Salem, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Alaska: The Last Frontier.
Favorite Musicians/Bands: Florence and the Machine, Brand New, Lady Gaga, Stevie Nicks, VNV Nation, Johnny Cash, Manchester Orchestra, all 80s pop and more.
My Future Plans for Writing
Just like any other serious writer, I have many plans for my writing in the future. I plan to continue writing articles for Hubpages and improving and adding to the existing ones. But my biggest writing plans are to finish writing two novels that I started a few years ago. You see, I get these awesome ideas for fictional novels, start writing the novels, and then fall out of it after time goes by. Somehow I get busy with life and the novel-idea goes to the wayside.
My goal this year is to finish at least one of those novels by the end of Summer. Sound difficult? I have about 20,000 words written already, and if I write at least 1,000 words a day, technically I should be able to finish writing the rough draft within a few months. The editing process will take a bit of time, too. My dream is to become a published author. I don't expect to be a famous author, but I dream of having a moderate-sized following.
