All Her Yesterdays

She wonders where did yesterday go

it was here, seemed like a moment ago

the sun was in the sky

no storm clouds about

but they were gathering

she just didn’t know

had no idea

that he would just disappear

was it something she said

could it have been done differently

but it was much too late

it must be her fate

to go on alone in this life

hide away her heart

for she wanted no part

of another love

as the sun set low

and twilight turned the sky purple

it seemed as if long shadowy fingers

were clutching at her heart

another long night

of wondering and thinking

watching the red wine

shimmering in her crystal goblet

perhaps somewhere out there

he might have a change of mind

but would he find her in time

would the love still be so fine

with a sigh and a sip of wine

she closed the curtains

and began her vigil

waiting for the new day to dawn

as the wine slowly numbed her mind

somewhere between midnight and the early morn

she heard a car and saw flashing lights

they had come to tell her he was gone

not just from her but from life

while she was hurting inside

he had been coming back

to say that he still loved her

it was all there they said

the roses and the champagne

if only fate had not interfered

and that deep ravine

what had he thought those last seconds

before the car went tumbling down

why was life so cruel

as she placed roses on his grave

but she knew he was watching

and would be with her

until they could meet again

up behind the pearly gates

If we could all turn back time, it would be great. Great poem with lots of feeling and truth.

Sad and beautiful at the same time. That is why we have to live every moment; we never know which moment may be the last.
