Always Missing You

Every lunchtime

Brought her to the diner

That always provided daydreams

As she toyed with her food

And found memories all around

There was the booth

With her at four

And mom and dad

The birthday cake and all

The stools at the soda fountain

Where she and Jerry sat

Making eyes at one another

Friends from kindergarten

Happy smiles and shining childhood eyes

Friends vowed to the bitter end

Sad summers when families went different ways

And happy autumns to meet again

Entering high school

Never a worry about dances

By that time they were steady

And so very much in love

Here at the diner

Sitting in the back booth

Stealing kisses

Sharing chocolate sodas

Jerry her love from day one

They were hardly ever apart

Her girlfriends envied

And other boys sighed

It was a perfect match

Jerry and her so much in love

Unhappy to be apart

As summer came

Hot summer days dreaming

And letters flying back and forth

Till magical September came once more

Graduation time

And separation

She was staying behind

While Jerry had big plans

And off to Harvard he went

Holiday excitement as they got together

Spending every moment

Reaffirming their love

Then it was as if they just drifted

Apart so very strange it seemed

Love just seemed to freeze in time

They weren’t who they once were

Older, wiser and sadly it seemed love had ended

Jerry moved on

While she got a job

And then it began

When with every guy

It never worked

Because she always wondered

Where Jerry was

If he was thinking of her

And if she let herself

Fall in love again

What if he would come back

It was silly and such nonsense

But she lived in memories

There was still a part

In her very heart

That belonged to Jerry only

With a sigh

Resigned to face reality

That Jerry was just a memory

She got up to return to work

As she rushed out the door

She collided with a man entering

And suddenly the world spun out of control

As Jerry grabbed a hold of her arm

Telling her he had been searching

For her everywhere

Fantasy and reality had blended into one

Jerry was back in her life

As they both realized

They had never fallen out of love

Just put it on hold for awhile

As they sealed it with a kiss

A lovely happy ending. Perhaps they both gained maturity from the separation and that helped to enrich their relationship. Enjoyed it.

Your happy ending is wonderful. Like, Barb (B. Malin), I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. Janis added just the right touch, Rasma. :-)

Glad you enjoyed this Genna. I've always loved her song and as I listened to it it brought inspiration. Love that cry to her voice.

Love that is true should never die Sunny.
