The Amazing Books of Amanda Hocking

The Amazing Books of Amanda Hocking

The ultimate fangirl and the poster child for self-publishing, Amanda Hocking is a one-gal wonder. I first heard about her when I read that she did her first ever self-published book in an effort to raise enough money to see the traveling Jim Henson museum shortly after he died. Needless, to say she is a huge Henson fan. It seems that she not only raised the couple hundred she needed (this story has become legendary so the numbers shift with each telling) but in the first year she sold over a million copies of her first book. And believe it or not, it was all self-published through Amazon. I don’t even want to do the math on the moola that makes her. Every writer should be so lucky, and talented.

But the thing I really love about Amanda’s work is the charming reality to it. Especially when you stop to consider that the girl writes about some very far out fantasy situations. Her books tend to have young heroines who have these very ordinary lives until SOMETHING HAPPENS. Oh – and they always seem to have these absolutely gorgeous men hanging around them. Like we should all be so lucky.

You can check in on Amanda through her blog on blogspot if you want to see what she is up to and of course check in on her site for the latest happenings on her books. I will be looking at each series in detail further on. But for now, Amanda rocks my world and if you read her books I know she will rock yours!

She has several series out and I will be taking the time to look at each of them in detail. But for now I will simply give you a list of the books for your reading pleasure. Plus, the covers are really so cool:

The My Blood Approves Series

My Blood Approves
My Blood Approves

This is the series that started it all. When 17 year old Alice falls for two brothers, she doesn't realize they are vampires. And that is just the start of their problems. Sweet while a bit scary and very fun!

Fate (My Blood Approves, Book 2)
Fate (My Blood Approves, Book 2)

Alice may think that she and her brother Milo (my fave in the series!) have it all together now, but they are so wrong. Even if her vampire boyfriend can stay away, now she isn't so sure she wants him to! Innocent and dark at the same time!

Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3)
Flutter (My Blood Approves, Book 3)

The final book in this landmark vampire series. Alice joins the world of the undead, but it solves nothing. Milo is in deep, her friend Jane is addicted to the bite of a vamp and Alice craves the blood. Yikes!

The Tyrelle Trilogy

Switched (A Trylle Novel Book 1)
Switched (A Trylle Novel Book 1)

Switched, Torn and Ascend are a trilogy that she did in 2012. This fantastical series is about a young girl who discovers she is a changling, a non-human magical being who was switched at birth. Now she is on a journey to find out just what and who she is. And to discover the reasons why that switch was made.

Torn (Trylle Trilogy Book 2)
Torn (Trylle Trilogy Book 2)

This second book in the series follows Wendy as she learns more about her true nature, and her feelings for the mysterious Finn.

Ascend: A Trylle Novel
Ascend: A Trylle Novel

In this finale to the series, choice must be made that involve sacrifices. Can Wendy choose who will live or die? Can she choose who she will love?

The Watersong Series

Wake (A Watersong Novel)
Wake (A Watersong Novel)

This is the first book of this series and sets the tale. There are not many fantasy books about mermaids, and she uses them to good affect in this. When Gemma meets three sisters they lure her to a world of power she has never known before. A darker set of tales then her earlier books.

Lullaby (Watersong, Bk 2) (A Watersong Novel)
Lullaby (Watersong, Bk 2) (A Watersong Novel)

In this second book of the series Gemma is finding out the down side to this power. She is filled with needs she never had before and is lost to her humanity.
