An Apple To A Worm

An Apple To A Worm

Like a worm nibbling away at an apple

You tear away at my flesh

Until I become nearly nothing,

Until I become less.

My skin bruised,

You do not care

And carry on

Until there's nothing there.

Bite by bite

I begin to disappear

But you continue on,

My worst fear.

You have a goal in mind,

You want to reach my core.

Tear me down

Like many apples before.

But you finally reach my core

And it's not what you had thought it to be.

It's not showing hurt,

It is not weak.

You stand back

And look at my core.

You had expected less

But I am so much more.

Tears fall from your face

And you regret what you see.

For what stood in place

Was something special, unique.

You begin to apologize

But it is far too late.

No answer comes to your cries

For I was the worm's bait.
