An Empress You Are: Poem by Edina Jackson

I love writing poetry, I wrote my first poem when I was six years old. This is when I realized that I wanted to write. I was inspired by Michael Jackson, one of his songs just gave me that inspiration to put pen to paper. To unleash my creativity in literary form, I have not looked back since. I am inspired by life mainly, real life situations, people I meet on the street, people I meet at the bus stop. Friends, family, my son, heartache, adversity and everything else in between. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and feel this incredible urge to put pen to paper. I used to write it down, then I started recording it into my phone, now I make a video. I am addicted to making videos reading my poetry. I am in the process of putting together my poetry book which will be my second published book.

Most of the time my poems are just ramblings, nothing too serious. However, sometimes I slip into another room. As in, I just enter into a dark place where I write about my deepest darkest fears, secrets, sadness, and pain. I have almost become obsessed with writing, with creating, this is why I decided to set up my copywriting/freelance journalism agency because I could never work a nine to five job doing something I hate. I need creative control, I crave it, I yearn for it. I think I am free spirit, someone who needs to fly with the wind, and do what life has destined for me. Sometimes when I write poetry I really don't even think about it. I just write, write, write. It is almost like the time has stopped, because I never look at a clock. I just write, write, write and sometimes fall asleep with a pen in my hand. I love writing as much as I do talking really, writing is my conversation as much as talking is.

As you can see I am rambling, rambling, rambling. I hope you enjoyed the poem I wrote in the video. I wanted you to hear it rather than read it so, if you have not listened to it, go ahead and do so.

Take a look at this poem called floating in the video below too! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my creative ramblings.
