And It Was All Just a Dream: A Short Story

Source

My imagination’s taking me away…

I just want to frolic in the forest and twirl around until my head gets dizzy and I fall down. I’ll hit my head and be awakened into a new reality where pumpkins dance and Owl City is blasted through speakers made from VCRs and motor cars. I’ll be lost in a silent ballet put on by the chipmunks. Then my captain on a snowy horse will take me to the after party where we’ll turn off all the lights and set the ballroom aglow. As we twirl, the glow in the dark stars on the ceiling will shine for us. I’ll yawn and tell him, ‘For heaven’s sake, keep me awake.’ He’ll just smile, hold me closer, and we’ll both blush. Leading me to the balcony, he will silently reach for my hand for the first time and my eyes will grow wide from surprise. He’ll whisper quietly, “We were meant to be”. I think I’ll just agree and smile. Hand in hand, we’ll walk back into the forest. The trees will sway in time to a grizzly bear playing the accordion. A quartet of cute crickets will chime in as I hum along. We’ll dance one more dance in the moonlight. Then I’ll sigh as he climbs back onto his snowy white horse and rides away. I’ll whisper sadly, ‘As many times as I blink, I’ll think of you tonight’. Suddenly, reality will wake me from this world of dreams and reverie. Looking down, I’ll see all the autumn leaves and brush off the dust from the ground beneath me. Walking home, I’ll regard the real world as such a sad sight.

About 'And It Was All Just a Dream'

My favorite musical artist is Adam Young of Owl City. You can find out more about him here: http://owlcitymusic.com. One night, I mixed up some of my favorite lines from various songs he has written over the years in order to write this short story. I wanted it to encapsulate everything he's known for: innocence, idealism, and imagination. I hope you enjoyed it. Please feel free to comment below to document your thoughts, opinions, or constructive criticism. Thanks for reading!

So what's Adam been up to of late?

f: Supposedly, he's remixing a song for Switchfoot who is planning a remix album with other artists/bands. Also, he collaborated with Paul van Dyk, a DJ and producer, on a song called 'Eternity'. It should be available March 20th. He's also working on his own album; he's supposed to be collaborating with more people on this project as opposed to working by himself. There are rumors that it might be released this summer (2012), but that seems pretty soon to me. That's all I know so far! :)

Well, ty: your 'all' is quite a bit, anyway! You mention collaboration; seems to me also that the essence of his persona often means that he will be working on his own.

Blessings.

f: Yes, that was kind of a joke lol. Yes, in the past, he's been a 'one man band'; writing, singing, playing, and producing his own music with only help from instrumentalists, managers, etc. It seems that he is branching out and being featured in songs with other artists and involving more people in the writing process of his own music.
