Rose Haiku

Rose Haiku

Fingers Prick on thorns

Reaching into a rose bush

After perfect pink blooms

Tiny tight rosebuds

On tips of tall stems waiting

For tug of sunlight

Dead leaves, drooping rose

Warn of autumn stepping near

Chilly breath heaving

Cool wash of water

Makes roses bloom in gardens

Drops roll off leaves

Red rose reminds me

Of lover's gift, forgotten

Joy of a flower

If life is a rose,

Then the tall thorny clusters

Are just stems to blooms.

Fragrant scent of rose

On the full, blushing petals

Visitors breathe deep.

Re-thread the needle.

Tear apart old shirts,

Pulling out stitches,

Saving the buttons.

Jab the needle

Through plaid and print.

Quilt them together

Until the scraps of material,

Cover the expanse of a bed.

Summer Kite

I could fly like you

If I was made from paper

With a streaming tail

hanging from my feet..

Tight pulls the frail string

That barely anchors me.

But gravity holds my shoulders.

My feet compact the dirt

While the wind that skirts around my body,

pulls the hem of my clothes,

But refuses to lift.
